Hey Zac, I have the "Mud on the Lens" DVD and love it. I love Brad's tone on the song "He Didn't Have to Be". He uses his Musicman Albert Lee model guitar. He has such a thick tone on that song. What amp and setup was he playing through on that song? Keep up the great work (tone). Kent That's the Albert Lee into a Keeley baked ts-9, delay came courtesy a Line 6 Echo Pro. ES RX and Maz 38 amps. Zac

That's a late 80's american standard Tele, in gun metal blue. It was his main guitar from his college days until buying the 68 paisley. It has a SD alnico II pro lead pickup, and a SD hot strat stack in the neck position. The pickgaurd is clear, and has a picture of Chet Atkins underneath it. Zac

Hey Zac. I remember hearing a long time ago that Brad used some sort of voltage regulator to help with power variations between venues. Could you shed some light on this subject? Thanks

He used a variac with his early 60's vintage AC30's. They opperated much better at 115, than 120. Zac

The guitar is a 52 body with a 57 neck. Brad uses the Z's, but he sometimes uses his red 62 AC30 in conjunction with the Z's. Zac

Hey Zac, quick question here. Your 2x12 ghia along with the 1x12 ghia Paisley once used with both of you loaded with blues, What was the ohm configuration of the amp(s) and speaker(s) in each? Ran in parallel i'm guessing? If you don't mind me asking, is the tube configuration stock? Thanks a bunch!

Ran in parallel i'm guessing? If you don't mind me asking, is the tube configuration stock? Thanks a bunch! The blues were always 8ohms each. So in the 2-12 Ghia, they were wired in parallel for a 4ohm load. Tube config was stock except for swapping v1 with v2 so the 5751 was in the spot the 12ax7 was in. Zac

As far as vintage guitars are concerned, there are lots of old, valuable guitars out there. But, there are very few really special ones. Brad looks for the special ones. Zac

Zac, you're right. Vintage and valuable do not always spell "special". Many times it's thought that it does.

Zac will know better than me paisley, but from everything I've read, Brad hasn't used the Tube Screamer for awhile. When he did, I believe it was Keeley modded, like his Boss pedals. The Zendrive is his current fav. I get almost dead on sound with a Keeley Modded Boss Blues Driver through my RXES. I'm sure you can dial it in with the Maz Jr and the TS-9 too. I wish I could keep changing around too, but those modded pedals will kill ya if you keep adding on. I'll be interested to see what Brad's TS-9 settings were too.

Brad does still use a baked keeley modded TS-9. This is mainly used on ballads. The settings(from left to right) are around 9o'clock 10o'clock and 1o'clock. His main sound is still a Tele with a delay through a Z amp. Zac

Hi Matt...and sorry Zac for hi-jacking a little bit here! Matt, I won't answer for Zac or help him out on this question, but I can tell you that most often when guitarists get instruments made on a custom basis, they will have that custom instrument configured to the specs of a trusted guitar. This really helps out in not having the guitarist need to "get used to" an instrument, but feel at home on it immediately. The '68 is truly a trusted guitar and the chances of most of the Crook's necks being "C" shaped are quite high for these very reasons.

Zac your are such a great addittion to this board. thanks On the AC booster, all four knobs are almost right on noon, except for volume which is at 11o'clock. Delays, The Aqua Puss is the fave for slap back. The DD-2 is set for close to the same time. Its used when he is playing at high speeds and needs the notes to pop out better, or just for its brighter repeat. The Line 6 is used for all long delay times. He also just added a Maxon AD 999 to his rack. Zac

Tele1962 is on the right track. Most of the Crooks do have that neck. Except for the Buckocaster which has a med/soft V, and Salsa(red paisley with rosewood board), which has a med/hard V. Zac

Hey Zac, How does Gary Hooker set his Z-28? He usually sets it for as clean a signal as possible. Volume all the way up, bass up a little over half way, and treble about a third of the way up. Zac
