Is the Master going to remain on the back of the amp, or is just the proto that way because Doc used an RX chassis? It's not a huge complaint, but having the master on the front would obviously be more handy. I think it's gonna be built that way, Doc's all about keeping costs down (which I am in favor of too... ) and he can use the same front and back panels with out having to make/ buy new ones using the unused 16 ohm out as the master... I actually LIKE the Master on the back and with the 5y3 rectifier standard ( which I think is the key because Doc said with the GZ-34/ 5AR4 it was still too loud and too close to the RX ES), the power is knocked down considerably... and the sound is perfect... dead on like the RX ES except at a lower volume. I don't even for-see using the master much... just keeping it maxed and if I get into an... uh oh we're too loud situation, reach around behind the back and back it down a bit. but it really is at a Perfect volume level... right there with the Ghia and the Maz JR... as a matter of fact, I'm gonna use my RX JR strength a/b y'd with my Maz JR reverb!! ;D

does it have 3 12ax7s?, a 5751`? about the same volume as the ghia, with the 5y3,,?, i can never give up my 99 rx, smoothest percussive over the top i've ever had, with or without an airbrake, and i have one of those too, this will be the next amp i own,, i am gonna wait a bit. one thing i dont understand, the reason to not use a 5ar4, because it is too loud,, is the real reason because it would eat up the 2 el 84s too fast? seems like with the master volume you could get around that. i was thinking that with a good nos 5ar4 it would take the heat off the power tubes,,, but of course, dr z knows his design, andwho am i to second geuss the finished product. got to have one.

Well, I gotta get mine and give her a whirl, can't WAIT to try some things ( Especially different speakers... I wanna try 2 Celestion BLUES in my Z open back cab that I can't use with the RX ES cause I'd blow em for sure where I like to set the volume at... but with the Maz JR and NOW the RX JR... PURRRFECT!! watch out Stingray ) But from what I remember from the prototype, and the SHORT time I played it at Z-fest... it wasn't really louder... but around the same overall volume level as the Maz JR... with MUCH more clean headroom available than the Ghia and maybe even a little more clean headroom than the Maz JR but with that RX percussive sound, RX's chime/ swirl thang goin on and a bit of hair available even without the Overdose like the RX's have... then you also have the Overdose ( Which btw I DIDN'T use/ try at Z-fest because I don't really use it on my RX ES, and I like the big clean sound with a little hair similar to the sound of the Original Cranked up with the expand on.) AND the reason for the 5Y3 if I understand correctly from Doc is to give it a little more sag/smooth it out and set the tone and volume perfectly compared to the RX ES... apparently with a 5AR4 rectifier the Volume level was a bit higher and wasn't really that far off from the RX ES and was also maybe a little tighter with a 5AR4... but that ALSO gives you ( and I'm gonna try this) another option, as you COULD use a 5AR4 in there if you needed a little more outta the amp and/ or wanted a little tighter/ stiffer sound... then use the master to taste! but the 5Y3 really was a perfect fit with this amp, and it also played and FELT perfect which to me is as important as the sound... apparently it's so tight already that the 5Y3 actually loosens it up a bit and allows it be a little warmer, I'm gonna try my Mazda NOS 5Y3 I got for my Ghia in the RX JR too... I bet that would give even more headroom while retaining the smoothness/ warmth AND percussiveness! BIG SOUND! I know we hype amps we like... but this really was a slightly lower powered version of the RX ES that club playing folks/ mere mortals like me can use and crank into in OUR live situations. I been using the Maz JR Reverb more than any other Z since I got it and combined with the RX JR is gonna make a sweet lower powered combination for me to use... AND I can do the Country thang with a buddy of mine using a tele OR Blues with a strat using the same amps... MAZ JR/ RX JR for most gigs and then if I need to for outdoors or a rare bigger gig... MAZ SR/ RX ES! and you know, with 2 celestion blues in the Z open back or a Z-best cab... the MAZ JR is pretty flippin loud... so with one of these cabs the MAZ JR OR the RX JR could probably handle just about any size gig even by themselves... Z's just WANT to be and just NEED to be cranked!! "Cleveland is one loud town!" OK I'm through... sorry so long but I can't wait for this amp... The RX and MAZ SR have been MY amps, and MY sound since I got my first Z which was my Orginal RX. Now I've got not just one... but BOTH of them in a smaller wattage version I can use in real world live playing situations regularly!! DUDE, LIKE TOTALLY SWEEET!! ;D ;D

I'm saving up for an amp build right now and was telling my wife that after the build (which is a champ clone) I'm going to need a clean amp too and then I'll be done for a while so we can concentrate on our finances.
I think this is an amazing first Z for me. It seems perfect for me.

is the combo going to be a 1x12, 2x12, or both? Willcutt's only has one price for the combo, not sure which one...

This review is killing me. Now I need to sell my blackface '64 Princeton to even get in the ballpark of snagging one of these. The Vox-meets-Dumble thing sounds perfect to me.

How does the Rx Jr. compare to the Maz Jr. Inquiring minds want to know!

I'll try to answer some questions.Doc says the output is about 15 watts (suprising, because it sounds huge).I have a Maz 18, but the ES Jr has more clean headroom. There was talk of scrapping the master volume, but I urged Doc to leave it,because I play in Lexington,Ky, and rock is dead.I believe the plan is to leave it on the back panel.I've used this amp on a couple of gigs, and it's superb.Right now, the plan is for combos to be 1x12 and 2x10-no 2x12's at this time.As Jason indicated, colors are available. The first batch will probably ship early september.

Here's another question:
Will the 1x12's have the Alnico Gold like the currently available RxES 1x12? (the RxES with Gold is $1799)

So will this amp still do the rock thing like big brother when wound up? Will it get small club level crunch?

All the stock colors will be available.Doc will probably offer the 1x12 with a G12H or a Greenback. His feeling was that the amp might not push the Alnico Gold quite hard enough. I used mine on a Z best, and filled a pretty good size (250 seat) venue unmiked, however, before the club began to fill up I had the master on about 10 o' clock, and it still sounded fat and sassy.I have a 2x10 Z cab that I'll use for smaller applications. I'm very interested to hear Doc's new cab design with the removable back panel.

1x12 Greenback combo would sound nice...
Tell ya whats gonna sound good, is a head through two Celestion blues...
that would also be a nice 2x12 combo... I think it'd push em plenty hard (vs. the C-gold) and never have to worry about blowing them blues. My Maz Jr sounds amazing through them...
How about a single blue... that might work if you don't crank it??

I love my RxES with 2x12 Golds, but Rx Jr and 2x12 Blues is soooooo tempting. I am really trying very hard to NOT pull a trigger on Rx Jr right now. Just reading all these posts is driving me wild.

Doc and I talked about a single Blue, but this amp has a very robust low end, and as we know, reconing a Blue ain't cheap. My guess is two Blues would sound great.
