Never say never. I'm a die hard Gibson Les Paul guy. Notably a humbucker guy. However a few years ago I made a LP Jr kit with a single P90. I loved it! The P90 guitar worked more and more into the rotation until I picked up a Heritage H137. The Heritage guitar is awesome and getting more and more play time. I love the P90 sound and how the lower output (than humbuckers) interacts with the amp. I've noticed lately that when I play my Les Paul I now have my GV turned back quite a bit as it approximates the lower output. However since I've taken so much interest in the single coils, I've spent a lot of time lately listening to guitarists that play strats..... and thinking about taking the plunge. It's such a unique tone.
I've only had one strat, EVER. It was about 5 years ago and I just didn't agree with it. It was an EJ model. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't think I was ready to really give it a good try. Never thought I'd allow a strat into my house ever again, but there is a new one sitting in my kitchen still all boxed up waiting for me to get back in town!
The #1 tone I'll be looking for is David Gilmour's. Or at least in that direction. I ordered a new Professional Stratocaster (replaces the american standard moniker) and also a loaded DG20 pickguard. All the reviews of the pickup set sound perfect to me. Pretty excited!

Sweet. I've been eyeing a matching Professinal Strat & Tele in recent weeks. The Strat Professionals I have tried recently are some of yhe nicest feeling Strats (for me) that I have ever picked up.
Congrats 😎

Only a Strat sounds like a Strat....also they have got to be the most comfortable guitar to hold. As long as you remember that single coil Strats just feel and sound softer than a LP with Humbuckers or P90’s ... AND that different isn’t BAD ...just different.
Congrats!

I am also a late comer to the Strat club, but am so glad to have made the transition. A couple things seem to stand out in "crossing over". I tend to set my action a bit higher on the Strat than other guitars and it takes a bit more focus and experimentation to get all the sounds out of it, but the more I change volume, pickup selection, right hand placement, etc, the more the guitar delivers.

Congrats 😎 I played a few at the local GC. They were nice. They didn't have the finish I was after though, so I ordered one. Hopefully mine plays as well as the ones I tried. They seemed set up pretty good and the neck shape felt nice to me.

my go-to practice guitar is a strat, go-to gigging guitar is my les paul. Go figure.
I hope you enjoy that Strat as they're very fun instruments to play.

My biggest hurdle will be the middle pickup. I'll just need to give it time and adjust my picking. I'm a deep picker, so I always end up hitting my pic on a middle pup. On my LP's I notice the paint is all scuffed up between the pickups from my pic. Not sure why I do that, but I do. Back on the days of spandex I liked Ibanez Jems. But I would take out the middle pickup for the mentioned reason. I'll just be patient and consider it a learning experience. Can't wait to get home and try it out!

I'm looking at a traditional Olympic White/Rosewood combination...which is odd for me as I usually go a little off the beaten path.

I just have two white guitars already, my LP Custom (well, it's more yellow these days) and the Heritage. So I went with black / rosewood. The Gilmour loaded guard is all black as well.Should be a cool look.

Strats (or non-Fender S types) have a distinctive voice, which is calling to you. My personal experience is that it takes my fretting hand a little time to adjust to the different scale lengths when switching from, say, an LP to a Strat. Nick, you're now only a short step from getting a Telecaster.

I think you're going to love a strat. The tones you can get out of them are like no other. Looking forward to your thoughts on how it sounds through the Z Plus. I'm thinkin the Z Plus should be the perfect strat amp.

I resisted single coils forever, prior to switching nearly entirely to them in the 80s. The bigger the band, the less likely I will play a humbucker. I have worked my way back to about 70-30, in favor of singles.
I’ve owned four strats. They’ve all been good to great. They are almost always a good option to play and sometimes a great one in a song. Sometimes, nothing can top them. My most recent one is an American Special. The big advice I’d give is to watch Carl Verhayen’s youtube video about floating the trem (actually vibrato) bar to stay in tune. Lube the nut and string trees, too.

Nick, you're now only a short step from getting a Telecaster. ...and a cowboy hat & boots ...and then joining a rodeo. Better be careful this could get progressively worse. Might need to call a doctor. Send the EMS immediately!

I love strats! Built one to my own specs a few years ago and have a couple of loaded pickguards that allow me to change it out from time to time.
For about the last 4 years it's been loaded up with Don Grosh P90's. There is something so right about a S type with P90's to my ear. All the sweetness and clarity of regular singles and all the crunch and grind of a HB (when you stand on them)!

With a pedal or two you can get a LP sound with a Strat! You can never get a Strat sound out of a LP!

So with out even plucking a note, the factory pickguard came out and the DG20 went in. I'm sure EMG's are a polarizing topic. But man! They sound perfect to me! With the active controls off it sounds real nice and sweet. The mid boost really works outstanding. It can get real thick and meaty without even kicking on a pedal. This is super handy for me. With it about 3/4 the way up it sounds similar to a P90. I love this knob. The other one, the tone expander... not sure. It might have some uses, but for now off is fine. The guitar plays beautifully. I love the neck. It really wasn't until after I put it down that I realized I never even once thought about the neck shape when I was playing. It just melted away in my hand. I did change the strings to my usual Ernie Ball Slinky Hybrid 9-46 as I had to remove the original strings to change the guard. A few tweaks on the spring claw and I was off and running. Didn't even need a truss rod adjustment, it plays great all over the neck. I'm really happy with this purchase. It puts out so much different tones than what I'm used to. All and all it seems really nicely made and solid. Stays in tune nice as well.
