Has anyone tried Tungsol 5881 Reissues instead of JJ 6v6's? I have a quad of JJ's going in to my Remedy soon. I have to try the 5881's just to see, but that is not an cheap experiment. I'm curious as well

When I originally received Ryan (shorty) Remedy I was very pleased but a little surprised compared to what I was expecting. Ryan said it had special Mojo but it seemed controllable. I have been having a blast with 4 tubes cooking with all of the appropriate safety gear of course. My colleague Adam wanted to try it for a show on Friday so I thought I should get new tubes throughout and make sure it didn't change the dynamics too much. Things changed, I poked the Bear. Erika the Red Remedy Update: New tubes across the board, literally. 1. New Recommended Tubes JJ 6 V 6's JJ 12AX7's V1 and V2 Tung Sol 12 AX7 at V3 Unbelievable power! I am not experienced enough to harness the guitar through the amp with that power, even with the Fryette Power Station. However, that is why I wanted a beast, so I can understand how to control that much power through your guitar. I totally dig the amped up Plexi hard rock tone, but I need a little more headroom in the neck position of my Strat. Erika took a Zanax. 2. Zanax Cocktail (Gateway Dose) Tung Sol 5751 @ V1 Mesa Eng? 12 AT7 @ V2 (A guy in town has a bunch of Mesa Engineering tubes that are recent NOS) That tamed her down enough that I could turn the Fryette up to 1, which is fine. I have the Volume on the amp at about 9 or 10 O'clock With that set up I feel like I want just a tad more headroom for articulating clean rhythm work. I feel like I really study the dynamics of amplified sound, but I hadn't had the focus on it years previous. I get to learn something new just about every day. 3. Zanax & Catalyst (Mixing Drugs, dangerous territory) In theory, the 5881 is the ideal tube to try to accomplish a bit more headroom for this amp, learning something new every day. Ordered a Quad from Antique E. Of course they shipped within hours. I am betting I can tame this amp to where it can get cooking and I can play cleanish rhythms without installing the MV. I don't having any aspirations to install a MV in this amp at this time. 5881's coming on Friday

I would check with the Doc before putting any other brand 6V6 tubes in your Remedy. I recall a post a few years back where owners were putting other 6V6's in their Remedy and they were burning out and failing pretty quick. He stated that only JJ 6V6's were stout enough to handle this amp. It may have changed with the MV added to the amp but better to ask first than plug and play and then cringe when the tubes fail.

Still want to know if anyone has experience using (Doc approved option) Tungsol 5881 Reissues instead of JJ 6v6's. Anyone?

Has anyone tried Tungsol 5881 Reissues instead of JJ 6v6's? I will do a video tomorrow when after they arrive. I do not have a V-30 speaker installed. It didn't pass the test.

Update on 5881's: I have a fresh quad of 5881's waiting for their turn, but my recent pre-amp maneuver accomplished more than I anticipated. 1. For some reason that I haven't determined, the Remedy and the Power Station together confused me a bit. So I pulled the PS out of the equation. 2. New JJ 6 v 6's V1 5751 V2 JJ 12AX7 EC083 V3 12 AT7
The result of this line up is that I now have a Remedy NMV that I can control at small room spaces. I can also get bright shuffle chords with just enough head room.
I really like this set up and especially the tone.
I am still going to be making a quick video to see if I can capture the tonal and Headroom difference in the 6 v 6's and the 5881's
Knob Job!!
Looks cool, but the knobs are ineffective for visual reference. Not good if you are a twiddler, I am not a twiddler, I just set it and then go. I think it look's subtle and sharp!
I haven't painted the dolly yet!

I got a pair in my Vibro King excellent tubes. Real warm and organic sounding nice crunch and also buttery tone.
