Just ordered a Cure from Humbucker. It should be a great fit for our practice space (hoping its lack of a reverb circuit will be a plus in battling what appears to be some severe RF interference there), and a perfect backup for the Z-Lux when we gig. Also a great grab-n-go for blues jams and other impromptu gigs. I know some of you-all also own the Z-Lux and have done side by side comparisons, but I can't seem to find them in the forum for some reason. Mike/Doctorice? Others? Would be interested to hear what you think about the Cure in relation to the Lux. I assume that the smaller cab will sound, well, smaller (I gigged a MAZ 18 studio combo for a year or so)--what else can you tell me?

Interesting--thanks, gents. I didn't get along particularly well with the Therapy, which I owned briefly after they first came out--didn't love the highs when the amp was overdriven (YMMV, of course). Here's hoping the Cure's Z-Lux DNA ends up being the dominant gene.

I liked the Therapy, but I found the highs just weren't what I wanted to hear when the front end was pushed. Everybody's ear is different, etc., and these days I have a pretty specific idea of what I'm looking for, and I generally don't hang onto amps if I don't love them pretty much right out of the box. Like most of us here, I've owned lots of amps, but only really bonded with a few--and usually that's kind of a combination of an immediate "wow that sounds GREAT" response coupled with a "let's see what ELSE this thing can do!" I basically want my main rig to sound like me, but the best possible version of me. My thinking in ordering the Cure wasn't that--I want a simple, affordable, lightweight practice/backup grab-n-go that gets me in the neighborhood of my best tone--close enough for jams and band practice. I wanted something small enough, also, to stash in a corner at gigs in case something went wacky with the Lux mid-set.

I bet setting the cure on top of the Z-Lux and running them together on the gig would be amazing.

We'll see--I do remember reading similar descriptions, which is maybe why I hesitated. If it doesn't work out I can always return it.

The Z-Lux is a little more pristine sounding then the Cure. I also had the therapy and preferred the Z-Lux or the Cure over it. Now I just have the Cure As my only Z amp. Its my grab and go for smaller gigs. It can get the blackface tone and the tweed tones it's more versatile then the Z-lux tone wise and it has more gain as well. It's a very cool amp. The Z-lux is a excellent amp as well. The Cure is a great grab and go as well as a practice amp for home. The level control is excellent. The Cure is looser sounding to me then the therapy if that makes sense? It's also warmer then the therapy the high end that you described is not in the Cure. The mid control on the Cure is where you will find many cool and usuable tones you want Z-lux type tones take the mids out or just back them down put the treble and bass at about 1 crank the master and put your volume at about 12-1. Set your level Accordingly and don't be afraid to use the EQ bypass switch as a boost. Put it about half way up and boom you got that blackface tone.
