So I am searching for a good drive... I have a ts808 and a gold klon clone.. both color the sound of the bottom end and sound a bit thin.. I'm playing a tele with custom shop broadcaster bridge pickup and american neck pickup.. occasionally switching to a gibson lp with p90's..
I like using the klon as a clean boost it really cuts through.
I'm playing through a dr. Z custom shop 2x12 with a g12 and a hellatone 30 .. open back 8 ohms.
I'd like to post a pic if anyone can let me know how
Thanks

A good clean boost like Flying Dragon or KOT with P90s and the EF86 is what I like! Klon Klone should work well. Put the vol mod on all the Volume pots and you can have a little more control. Use the Guitar Volume and Tones more and that Klon will do more than clean boost.

OCD all the way for me. I bought a V1 when it came out and just bought a backup because that pedal with the Route 66 is "my sound".
Lot's of bottom end and top end. With the mid-grind of the Route 66 it creates a huge sound-scape.

Thank you guys... I had a ocd in the past and liked it... I've been tweaking the klon and the 808 a bit now.. I like the clarity I'm getting from the klon with the current settings.. the bass is still a touch low.. but totally useable.. the 808 adds a nice gain stage to the klon if I put it after.. I might grab a ocd again to compare the gain structure..
thanks again for the advice

I'm still trying to figure this out myself, although I think my Klon KTR works alright. That said, I just realized yesterday that KTR's are now going for $7-800 so I think it would be stupid for me NOT to sell it and start trying other options.

That must be one heck of a pedal for that money. Now I'm curious, not that I can afford $700 for a pedal.

It's just the latest iteration of the Klon that was an attempt by Bill Finnegan (the inventor of the original Klon) to mass produce them. I got one before they stopped being produced for more than I would normally think of spending on a boost/overdrive and I have to say I've been impressed and really love the way it works with my Ghia. That said, Electro-Harmonix has their version of the pedal, the Soul Food, for around $70 including a power supply and from all reports it sounds pretty good. I started a thread about it a while ago and it seems like a few of the folks here have tried it and like. I still haven't since none have made it to any of my local shops.

So I looked at the you tube demos. Nice sounding pedal. GMD did a demo comparison of the Klon vs Soul Food. They are very close. To the OP I have been real happy with my Timmy pedal. I have it on the same board with a Barber Small Fry. I am really pleased with the sound through my RT 66 into the Z-Best as well as the convertible 2x10.

DC here! I have the Paul Cochrane Timmy pedal on my board. To my my ears the most transparent overdrive pedal I ever tried ( so far ) It's not a fuzz or pedal for lot's of distortion metall stuff and such. But more of a bluesy classic rock overdrive. The tone controls bass and treble works different than other pedals. When the tone controls is turned all the way down the pedal lets evertything through. When you turn the controls up (clockwise) - you actually cut out the bass and treble content of the drive. I have the Timmy set to the amount of drive and volume increase I want - then I turn the bass and treble controls up until the timbre between the clean volume and the ovedriven volume sounds the same to me. aka the same amount of bass and treble between the two sounds out of the amp. Works well for me - of course YMMV Cheers: Dixiechicken!

If you like the big fluid and compressed 'Dumble' tones try the Zendrive with the '66 or the much cheaper but equally great sounding Ze(h)ndrive clone DIY kit from UK-Electronic.de, It's a match made in heaven. Also, boost the Zendrive with a Tube Screamer type pedal for solos and you get great 'vocal' violin sounds that fades out in beautiful overtones. I have a T-Rex Alberta which is a clean and great sounding 'mid-hump' TS clone that is so close to the great BB Preamp overdrive that we couldn't hear the difference when A/B testing them. JimR

The Zendrive does sound great, but the NKT 275 Low Gain Sunface is my favorite pedal with the Route 66. This amp just loves Fuzz Pedals!

I was GAS'ing for a Mad Professor Sweet Honey and after checking out YouTube videos I tried the Joyo Sweet Baby instead (at 1/5 price of a used Sweet Honey...) and I really really like it - Suddenly the Zendrive feels a bit dark and muddy and too mid-rangey!! It can be set completetly transparant and just adding a bit of 'hair' to the tone without changing the sound at all, fantastic! From there you can add some drive and I even got the Joyo Booster that gives you more drive when boosting the input for solos. Please not that this is a low-gain overdrive, my taste for drive is becoming less-is-more and I'm trying to find the most natural overdrive that doesn't mess with the already great Route-66 tone.
