I just heard a demo of this pedal done by GMD and it sounds like Electro-Harmonix has been able to come up with a very good substitute for the Klon that sells for about $60. As an owner of a KTR I should probably not be mentioning this as my resale value is likely plummeting by the day, but I think this is awesome and I may just pick one up to stack with the KTR and/or replace it. The fact that I could have 2 (or even 4 or 5) for less than the price of a KTR makes it pretty appealing even if it doesn't quite make for a perfect substitute.

Man--dead on, to my ear. I had a KTR--sold it on the 'Bay for a nice profit. It's a good pedal, but very similar to dozens of other pedals out there nowadays. What's different about it is the way the buffer interacts with the drive circuit--really puts you out front in the mix without being crazy loud. The TC Mini Spark does something very similar. So does the Soul Food, evidently.

Yes, I've heard good things about the Spark too.
I'll probably grab one of these Soul Food, EHX may have a hit with this one.

Ordered one off Amazon. Always room for a good boost on one board or another.

I also own the KTR and just picked up the Soul Food out of curiosity. It's a winner for sure. I'm amazed they are selling this pedal for $63. They even include a 9 volt power supply.

Hmm, might have to explore this one, though I do have an excellent Klone in the Fredric Effects Golden Eagle, made in London and sounds every bit like my original silver Klon used to.

Hey guys, I have one since two days ago. I had never owned a Klon inspired pedal before but I know what itt does and how it sounds and heard some live in person. I have to say that in my opinion, EHX have hit a home run with this one. I've played it for about an hour with my Maz jr at home but with good volume and was seriously happy with what it did to my tone. I have put it last in chain gain low but now off completely (about 9-10 O'clock), volume just above unity for a slight boost and tone at say 11 O'clock. What is best about the SF is how it stacks with other pedals, so far it makes all my other pedals sounds better, I ran a KOT into it, a modded Boss SD-1 and last but not least, my SolidGoldFX If 6 Was 9 Fuzz (Germanium), this last one doesn't stack too well with a lot of pedals but into the SF it will cut just perfecty in a band mix and gives it a nice ''presence'' for lack of a better word.
Seriously, super happy with that 65$ purchase !!

Got mine yesterday, and had a few minutes to mess with it. Settings pretty close to the KTR, iirc; Soul Food has maybe a bit more treble with the tone at 12:00. Buffer in the on position sounds excellent--adds a nice 3D quality to your rig, similar to the KTR. And, like the KTR, the SF as a drive on its own is, well, meh. But--turn the drive down and the volume up and use it as a semi-clean boost after another pedal and you're basically hearing what the KTR does best--put your solos out front in the mix without blasting your band-mates off the stage. Not quite as smooth on top, maybe--can anybody with both the KTR and the SF confirm that?

Just spent a bit more time with it--more and more impressed. Very, very good clean/dirty boost. For the price the SF is a no-brainer.

JHS has a mod available for it to give a couple of different clipping options for it. Buying it new with the mod straight from jhs still puts the pedal around $100.

I received a guitar center gift card for xmas and decided to order this pedal based on the videos and reviews along with the EHX East River Drive. Although I own a few pedals (OCD, BB Preamp, EP Booster etc) I am not really a pedal guy but once in a while just need to add a different tone twist to my amps. Anyway, just got an email from GC that the Soul Food id backordered. Got on an online chat thing with GC customer service (regarding something else) and mentioned the backorder pedal and the rep replied that they have not been able to keep in stock because they sell fast like hotcakes. Looks like EHX hit the jackpot again with this one

Dang--sounds identical to the silver Klon. But wait--that can't be! Isn't each Klon infused with custom tuned Super Mojo, or some bullsh*t like that?

The word "mojo" is the most marketable word ever produced

Picked one up today. Really like this pedal love the clean boost this pedal produces. For 68.00 you cannot beat it. They are selling like hotcakes at Guitar Center according to what I heard today. They cant keep them in stock. I guess they had just got some in and I bought the last one. It sounds like a high end expensive pedal. I had to move some pedals around but now I have it in the right spot and it stacks great with everything. Very cool pedal especially for the price.

I personally like it in buffer mode better. So do I. This pedal is the bargain of the century. It's a no brainier to at least try for $63.

I use mine as a clean boost right after my Lovepedal Cot50. It has a really nice warm shimmer no ice pic or harshess at all and it stacks like a champ.

Think I had better stop reading some of these threads with all this talk of Klons and clones. Just ordered a "Soul Food" at best UK price I could find. Thing is I am not really a pedal guy at all.

Well have had this pedal for a couple of weeks now and I don,t see what all the fuss is about. I just cant get a tone I like out of it . I find it very harsh and bright and its introducing a lot of unwanted hiss. Tried it every which way,in the loop, out the loop ,on its own,in front or behind other drives, buffer on and buffer off. At best I can achieve a slight fattening of the tone but at below unity gain as hiss evident when I increase the volume. I might have a dud but its definitely not staying. I will stick with my EP.

^^^ Have you tried it with the drive set low (say 8:00) and the volume up a bit (1:00), tone below noon? I use it only as a boost, not as a drive pedal on its own. Similar to the Klon.
