I had to sell my Ghia and now I have my Martin on the block, but it is worth it. This 6120-1959 TVSL is the best guitar I have ever owned. It sounds huge through my TTE & Route 66, Z28 in stereo

Whoa! Nice axe! But... you guessed it - it's backwards! All kidding aside - I want one of these too. But how many cool things can you buy in one year?

That's a beauty. What sort of stuff do you play? I never got on with semi's but the Gretches look and sound brilliant. Thinking about it my Trussart is hollow.

No, it's a rustomatic-croc skin effect tele. The sound is stunning, I could not believe how a tin box could do it. One or two quality issues let it down, the neck really is special. The Gretches are super quality tools, I got offered a Brian Setzer one in blue for a knock down price and was seriously tempted. The colour put me off. Now if it had been like the one in the pic..........

Blue would be an unnatural color for a Gretsch. In the mid 70s I had a super cool Super Chet (not the ugly one with the builtin effects) and an early 60s double cut orange one that was the second version 6120. Ever since those two guitars I've wanted another guitar with Filter Trons. Those are GREAT sounding pickups. I don't think those Setzer models have tone controls, do they? If not, no way.

If it has gold hardware I have 2 knobs off a Setzer I owned some years ago that are new and were the replacements for the "dice" . I'm in Ontario so postage only will send them your way is you want some spares .

The hot rods and black phoenix don't have tone controls, but the others do.
How's that zero fret treating you?

It sounds huge through my TTE & Route 66, Z28 in stereo that has got to be some serious mojo tone with that set up. YUM! I love the 66 and 28 in stereo but unfortunately I've never heard it through a TTE

Hey leftylang,
Here is the perfect setup for that guitar. Your Gretch > Fulltone Tape Echoplex > RT66/Z-best
That is basically one of the setups I tried while at Music Toyz a few weeks back. Sounded awesome!
Awesome guitar, congrats! Hey BW, will we ever see you on stage with a Gretch?

The reason I ask abou the zero fret is when there's a lot of bending in the low frets, little redges can get made and then whenever you do a bend you'll hear a slight ping. I was just wondering how long that takes. A great deal of people at the GDP are going through serious turmoil choocing between this one and an SSLVO. It's great fun to watch! Again, Congrats!

I think a zero fret makes more sense than expecting a plastic nut to do it all.

It's just a smaller model. Maybe just a little bigger than a Les Paul. Might just need to shorten your strap though.

Well thanks John Boy. I wish I'd bought all the Wretched Gretsches that were for sale cheap around here before Mr Setzer showed up on the scene w/ the Stray Cats. AND I saw a guy sell what looked to me like a new White Falcon to Andy's in Denmark St for 500 pounds and a real beat up old Framus archtop. He was locked out of his hotel room in London (with all his stuff still in there) and they wouldn't let him in 'til he paid his bill, poor guy. There was a guy at the Arlington TX Guitar Center that pulled a new 6120 off the wall and started tearin' UP that Chet style stuff. I had been noodlin' around on a tele and asked the guy how he ever learned to play like that. he said, "Aw, my brother plays that stuff like I heard you playin' a minute ago, I wanted to learn somethin' I could accompany MYSELF with." Man did he ever. "Mr Sandman, send me a dream...." GREAT tone outa that big ol' box.

Yesterday I made a tentative inquiry about a 63 Olympic white strat for sale in Denmark street. 'We will be asking in excess of £10,000 for it' came the reply. My CC went back into the wallet. Think I'd prefer a Lentz for a third of that. If I ever locate one here in the UK before DAVE grabs it that is.............

Bee-yoo-tee-ful! Well pappy, that proves it CAN be done, just not by mere mortals (or ME, anyway)...Chester looks like he's about 25. What a great tone, and thats what a Bigsby was designed to do. John Boy, I'll bring an extra from the Lentz lab next time we come over ;^) I'm sorry, NO guitar is worth that kinda dough. Don't care if Jimi played it at Woodstock.
