Available configurations: Head, 1x12 Studio Combo, Standard 1x12 and 2x10 Combo.
MAZ- 8 Head
$1599
MAZ- 8 1x12 Studio Combo
$1949
MAZ- 8 1x12 Standard Combo
$1949
MAZ- 8 2x10 Combo
$1749
1x12 Studio Combo: 19 ¼” W, 19 ½” H, 10 ½ ” D; 37 lbs
I read somewhere the Std Cab Maz 8 Combo is about 12-ish lbs heavier than the Studio version.... I can't find that tho. I would assume the amp would be similar in wt and dimensions as a Maz Jr or Z-28 Std Combo....
Head Dimensions: 19" W, 9.75" H, 9.5" D Weight: 22lbs

^^^ Thought I saw weight of standard combo listed as 50 lbs., right in line with what you said, Lee. That was on the Z website. Interestingly, at this moment the specs for the 8 appear incomplete. I could swear it was all there recently. Perhaps some revisions to the page coming?

I am debating head or combo. I already have 2 1x12 cabs with Blues . I probably should get the head. It's just the combo would be great to lug around when I do need to play out. Simpler than the Head and separate cab,

The standard cab is like all the other Z 1 x 12" combo cabs w the valance on the front. Larger, heavier.

Yes as Eric noted the standard cab is the basic 1X12 combo cab with the front valance. The Studio cab is a recreation of the ORIGINAL 1X12 Studio Deluxe cab. This is a smaller cab with a cool front slant to the baffle. That is the base of the cab is 10 1/2 " were the top is only 9 1/2". I origonaly copied the idea from older Music Man combo cabs. If you have ever seen the now famous Buddy Whittington 1X12 Studio Deluxe MAZ 38 that's it.
It is lighter, and more compact to fit the grab and go overall design of the amp. Loaded with a heavy Celestion Alnico Blue the combo still weighs in at under 37 lbs. Also the cab sounds great.

Black Studio combo for me. After reading Eric and EJ's dissertations I decided against the head and went for the grab and go.

Not sure I could get by with less than the 20 watt setting of the Remedy! Do you mic through the PA? But I want one of these for a grab and go rehearsal amp and studio amp! jj

Info spread around on a few different threads.
Unscientific, I really like the Maz 8. I'm always striving for an amp that can be used in it's "best range" and to me the "best range" would be a spot where I was hearing all the tubes working, especially the power section.
Doc has put a lot of great things in this box. The MAZ controls, which we know are very flexible, the Pentode/Triode switch which really delivers in spades. It is two different voicing/response feel/sounds and they are a couple of everyone's favorites. The cabinet housing the fantastic Blue is great. You guys know I harp about amps belonging on the floor, well the tilt definitely helps you hear the speaker. Also, I recently got a 1 x 10 Ghia and while I do not have a scale at the studio the Studio Combo feels a tad lighter. If it isn't lighter it may just be ergonomically easier to carry. It is a narrower cabinet and you don't have to reach down so far to get it.
I didn't bring the footswitch for the tone bypass to either gig but the tone bypass is really excellent. The amp kept up with bass and drums for me real well this weekend. The one that I have has a Brake Lite in it also. It may yield the best home recording/bedroom sounds of the entire Z line.
I haven't tried it through another cabinet yet but I imagine the results would be something like "more".
Fantastic
