Anyone have experience with Forte Musical? I discovered them on Tone Tubby's Dealer List. I ordered a 1x12.. should arrive by Labor Day. Dave, the guy behind Forte, is very cool.. as is his cabinet design [quite original too!]. He's been very easy to work alongside, and I'm very excited about getting the cab. He's also a dealer for Weber Speakers.. but my cab will have an 'Original H1' Alnico Tubby installed. When I put my Ghia on top of it, I'll report back. ;D

I don't have the cab yet, but Dave sent me a pic last night.. he's just waiting for the Tubby from A Brown Soun. I'll be posting my impressions of the cab here, after it arrives.

The first thing I should say is; I love {love} Tone Tubby Alnico speakers. (period) First impressions of the Forte cabinet... Appearance: 'Classy'.. [Rough Black tolex (same type as Z), Marshall Style Black grill] Build Quality: 'Heavy Duty'.. [tolex, grill, screws and bolts are all tight and solid] Tone: 'Neutral', 'Spacious'.. [seems (feels) very colorless, with a wide dispersion of solid sound without being boomy] I also have an open-back 1x12 cab from Tone Tubby, which is loaded with the same speaker ['Original H1' Alnico]. As I have more time to work the new cabinet, I'll do some comparisons with the traditional cab. But, for now.. the Forte definately seems more "neutral" and "3D". It just feels like I'm hearing the speaker, without influences or limitations from a cabinet. I think I'm gonna love it. ..more to come in a day or two... BTW: If you are reading this, but haven't read about Dave's design (via the forte musical website), zip over there. He employs some strategies that are unique in the world of guitar cabinets. {I'm just a satisfied customer.. wouldn't know Dave if I passed him walking down the street.}

Okay, now Dave is just showing off. Mind, if I had a massively expensive CNC machine, I would show off too. ;D
He seems to offer a very solid product. I have nothing bad and much good to say about his work. One could quibble that none of these ideas are new in the industry. Though he certainly has refined some of the details.
I wish the brown truck would get here with my order from A Brown Soun. Grrrrr....

I prefer FedEx too. It is only slightly complicated. I wanted to try one of the 8 inch San Rafael AlNiCo speakers. They were all sold out and were getting some back from Scott at South Valley Vintage Amps. So I just paid the extra and ordered one from Scott to hurry up the process. Not that there is anything wrong with Scott's prices - they are pretty good, especially if you are on the west coast with no cross-country shipping involved. Scott is a totally cool and nice guy, a real engineer too. The extra being I am a genuine A Brown Soun dealer.

^^^ You're a Brown dealer! ..totally cool! I bought a 2x12 TT Alnico cab from Scott a couple of years ago.. and he has given me some great advice over the phone. He's a very patient and knowledgable guy. I had one of Brown's 1x8 closed-back cabs, loaded with a San Rafael AlNiCo speaker. I did like it.. but, I didn't looove it. Maybe I would like that little speaker better in an open-back cab.. or in pairs or quads. I traded it away already. I'm using 12" 'Original H1' AlNiCos exclusively, now.

Totally cool, for sure. Hopefully you may see a link to my work on their site in the not too distant future. No CNC work here though. Actually, their site really blows lately. John says they are working on it.

How much of this cab design do you think will affect the sound of the cab/speaker miked?

Matt, she's definately attractive. Looks even more "expensive" in-person. The quality is very high. Designed to be over-built (like Z's), and very well assembled.. everything is tight. I snapped a few more pics, including a rear shot.. I'll post them later. ..mic'ing a cabinet.. my school of thought says that everything matters, and I don't think that mic'ing situations are excluded. Although, depending on the setting [venue], the improved tone might be negligable. In all-but-the-worst venues, I err on the side of "everything matters". ..that's just me.

John says they are working on it. Jan, I agree that Tubby's site sucks.. I've hinted around with Thom a few times. He usually deflects with something like, "ya, I've gotta get the site updated". [hehe] Do you care to share the identity of your work? I'd like to see it. I found Forte on Tubby's dealer list, and ordered the cabinet right away...

..thanks BurstBucker.. I tend to be a person that sweats the details. If I would have tried to perfectly match the cab with the head, I would have driven myself crazy. [at least I am a self-aware man] I decided to see the cab and head as seperate and important pieces, that deserve their own identity. ;D

My 8 inch San Rafael AlNiCo speaker is: ROSWELL, GA, US 09/09/2010 6:23 A.M. OUT FOR DELIVERYThat does not look very brown on my monitor. My work? Since ~70 I have built enough "Voice Of Theater", "Hard Truckers" and so-called "Thiele" cabinets to supply a small Grateful Dead concert. I say so-called because the basic design that everyone seems to call "Thiele" was actually done by Don Keele in the ~70s while working at Electro-Voice. What I want to do now is build a higher-end product. I have worn out several pencils trying to get some ideas out of my head and onto sketch pads. Ideas like putting a ~1 W amp with an 8/10 inch speaker into a small art deco box that might resemble a radio from ye olde days. And larger boxes too. How many times have we all (for at least some set of "us") heard, "I do not want that ugly black/red/purple box in my living room!"? But what if your amp/speaker cabinet looked like a nice antique radio, art deco end table or stereo console? Anyway, that is the high end of what I am working towards. The economy has not done me any favors. I registered the domain name zencrafts.com in ~96 and have done business under that name from time-to-time. So it looks like that will be the name. The one down side of that is, well Zenith and Dr Z have pretty much done the "Z" logo already. I have to come up with something else. I might use something like this:

^^^ ..excellent, Jan.. a furniture'esque amp/cab sounds cool.. I'm sure wives everywhere would give a higher approval rating. I checked the zencraft site.. no product list yet. I've been working the Forte cab.. with my guitar and with my electronic metronome [for faster break-in]. The Tubby is gettin' settled, and everything is sounding great! I've moved the rig into different spaces of my house, and I've played at different volumes. I'm really impressed on how tight the cab sounds at higher volumes. It's just a great "open-back" cab, that has the openings on the sides which creates a different "3D" signature. One great thing about the Ghia is it's open "3D" quality.. the Forte just adds to this great attribute. I can recommend the Forte for anyone who needs a high-quality, wide dispersion, "open-back" style cabinet. -Please feel free to post thoughts.. I affixed a new white/black "Tone Tubby" logo on the grill, so I may post some updated pics soon.

I've been using a 2x12 S/V with my RxES for the past 6 months and I really like Dave's cabs. I prefer "closed back cabs" for my house gig and these cabs do sound very big & 3D. Our lead singer plays Line 6/ Bogner thru a Mesa 4x12 on the stuff he plays guitar on and it just frustrates the crap out of him that my 2x12 spreads the sound around better, as well has better front projection to boot.

Hey tdavis.. welcome to Z-Talk.. Karma your way. Glad to see another Forte customer.. indeed, these cabs sound big and wide. Some of your advantage is probably the RxES.. tell your singer to get a real amp if he wants to compete.. hehe. The Ghia and Forte 3D112 is my ideal rig.. along with my Esquire. ..dynamic, warm, 3-dimensional, fat, smoooth, etc.. etc... Thanks for jumpin' in davis!!

Thanks for the "welcome"...I really enjoy it here! You're right about the comment about him getting a "real" amp, LOL! He's a really good friend...but hasn't "found his ears" for guitar tone yet. I'm wanting a 1x12 to use with a Maz 18 head that I've got on the way for my other gigs that doesn't require quite the volume that my RxES & 2x12S/V deliver, so I'm glad to hear your kudos for the Forte 1x12. I need "compact & mobile", but a big sound delivery...which I knew the Forte can do...even in a 1x12 configuration!
