Just wondering what NOS tubes have you guys tried and either liked, or disliked in your Maz Jr. I want to try something different, but not sure where I want to start.

RCA Blackbottom Rectifier tube.
The Groove Tubes that make up the rest of the ensemble are just great. Everyone will tell you something different, but Mike did a good job of tube selection right from factory, and it wasn't accidental.

I have a Mullard rectifier that a buddy gave me, and I like it a lot. I do agree on the GT power tubes. I am pretty much thinkin' V1, V2, and PI. I guess I should have put that in there. Sorry.

If you would like a little more clean headroom and to take some of the hair off you might try some Phillips 5751's in V5 and/or V1. I'm really liking them right now.

Anyone know the actual preamp tubes that ship in newer Maz Jrs? I forgot what what is mine--it was kind of a fruit salad with JJs in V1 and 2 and Sovtek in 5--can't remember what was in there now. If anyone knows the brand and order, please post. Thanks.

Robt scroll down to the Tubes thread and read "what tubes go where in a Maz 18. You may also have noticed the Doc has a post about swapping out V1 & 2 with the Svetlana 12AX7 SV. Perhaps you've already read all the posts under the Tubes heading already. Hope this helps.

Hey, dongiesen--thanks man. That's the thread I needed. I noted that he put a low noise 12ax7 in the reverb where my chart shows and I have an AT7. Wonder if tone is affected? Not from the reverb driver, correct?
You would think after all these years that I would understand this technology better, but I dont.

The reason I origionally asked the question was that I purchased a 2004 model on ebay with a reverb. Seemed like it was missing alot of life so I call Fat Sound Guitars ,as I already had something else on order, and asked to purchase a whole new set of tubes of the latest variety (they're a big Z dealer) so I'd know what I was working with and that it was good. Anyway when I got the tubes the 12AT7,(2) GT EL84's and the rectifier were obvious but I didn't know where the different 12AX7's went as the ones already in it didn't match what I received. As you probably know, you can spend hours and hours on this site reading useful info and since then I've read loads of other posts and of course learned from them as well. What an education. On my Fenders I always just plugged in and went for it not realizing all there is to know about the idiosynchasies of amps. It's been quite an experience but a very rewarding one with the Z.
