You guys will love this technical description. When i let a note ring, the amp makes a "rattley, buzzy sound". I thought it was the filaments in the pwr tubes as you could wiggle the pwr tubes and it would stop. put in new tubes same problem. so, i took the head out and looked for obvious things. the problem is that the red and black wires coming from the pwr tubes when vibrated/ wiggled will make the static type sound. like bacon frying. with the head out, i have moved the wires (with a chopstick) and the noise will stop. with in 5 minutes of playing, the noise is back. any ideas on the source or remedies? thanks, chris.

sounds like you may have a bad solder joint, I've had lots of little noise problems with my Jr and they all turned out to be minor things that caused them, ie: a bad reverb cable connection at the tank, loose rectifier, bad tubes. If you can solder, try re-melting the solder on the power tube sockets where that pair of twisted wires connects to, those twisted wires are the tube power lines from the transformer, remember to discharge the caps before you go pokin around in there.

When my maz jr makes funny noises, people tell me to take lessons.
But seriously folks....I too would think a solder joint.

I didn't think about a cold solder joint when we talked the other day. I'm glad you found a use for chop sticks.

hunter, you ought to know a chopstick is great for poking around where you shouldn't be. anyway, thanks for the help guys. i resoldered the wires on the tube sockets and then two places on the board and i seems to have worked (for the moment anyway).

I've been having the same problem with my NR model off and on. I thought it might be tube(s), but they're good. cpsdawg, "bacon frying" is how it sounds to my ears also. Hard to say this with a straight face...glad you went first. I've yet to pull the chassis, but I'll be doing that real soon. I hope I find solder joints that need touching up. It's in warranty, but I hate to be without it. Ray K.
