I'm looking for a little warmer sound and am considering these. Anyone ever try 'em with the Maz? Thanks

I replaced all the speakers in all the Z Cabs and Combos here with Tone Tubby Hemps....both 10" & 12". The only Amps they really see are MAZ Juniors and MAZ Seniors. You don't say what size you have/want but I can tell you they ALL sound really warm and nice with these Amps. Mark

I have a 12" Alnico Tone Tubby 1E in my Deluxe reverb and it kills. I am thinking oneday when I have some more cash I will replace the speakers in the Maz with either the Tone Tubbies or the new Celestion Gold speakers. I am also curious to see how the Tone Tubbies would sound with the Stingray.

Thanks for the replies. I have a Bob Burt pine cab that has 1 10 and 1 12. Somewhat unusual combo, but it provides much of the big sound of a 2x12 with less size and weight. So, I'm thinking of getting a 10 and a 12 TT alnico.

I have an alnico H1E (standard cone now) 12" TT in my Maz 38 and it's probably my favorite speaker of all time.

I don't have my maz 18 until next month, but I do have around 6 tone tubbies in Fender Deluxe amps, and other speaker cabs. I think they are great, the new ones are more articulate and quicker responding due to a redesigned voice coil.... the high end is more extended now. They actually sound good out of the box. The alnico is a little warmer than the ceramic and breaks up sooner. I say go for it.

You never mention what kind of music you play, but the ones here only see Blues really......AND....no Pedals or Hi-Gain stuff. Not that I think any of that matters, but with a Strat or Les Paul plugged straight into a MAZ, you can really hear the Guitar. You can still dial-in as much high-end and brightness as desired. A nice Strat or Les Paul (with Fralin Pick-ups) plugged straight into a MAZ Junior (or Senior) using Tone Tubbies are my two favorite tones. All the 12's I bought are Original H1's, and the 10's are all H1E's. www.tonetubby.com/faq.htm

I have a Mojo Cabinet 2x12" with Tone Tubby Alnico H1E. They sound great and really warm! You can't go wrong with it... IMO

I'm loving my stock Z speakers in my Maz Juniors which both are the 10" Z models. They be nice n everything for me. I have a buddie who put in TT's in a Marshall 2x10 combo and said they were a good thing for that amp and that he wasn't gonna dump it now.

If you're going to go for them, check out www.svvintageamps.com. They've had them on 'special' for the past year or so at about $30 below the direct from Tone Tubby price. Tone Tubby lists a number of dealers, but if memory serves me from when I was thinking about getting one, I only found the Tone Tubbys listed as a product at this dealer.

I'm looking for a little warmer sound and am considering these. Anyone ever try 'em with the Maz? Thanks I have a TT H1E in my Hot Cat 30R combo and it actually prevented me from selling that amp. Amazing speaker. However, in the Bad Cat cab, it doesn't sound as good as G12H-30s (British) in a Jenkins H61 2x12. But, I'm thinking the cab is the issue and that using a couple H1Es in a TT cab or Jenkins H61 cab or Avatar Vintage cab would kill.

I am a 54 year old sceptic for reasons which I won't go into. Approximately 4 months ago in a moment of weakness I pulled out the credit card and ordered a pair of Webers and a pair of Tone Tubbies after reading the posts from this Forum. It changed forever what I now expect from my gear in a very good way. Sound is very subjective but I think it safe to say that in all probability you will like the TT's. If for some reason you do not, it should not be too difficult to get most of your money back.

You folks have me thinking. Would two 10" ceramic TTs be an improvement in warmth over the stock Z speakers or is it just the alnicos that sound so good? The alnicos are over twice the price of the ceramics. Is there that big a difference in the sound?

I'm curious myself but I like the Z 10s enough that I'm not likely to throw down the plastic to find out.

OK....I absolutely LOVE the ALNICO Tone Tubbies, and have never heard the CERAMIC version.....but I also wouldn't bother getting those either. There are MANY ceramic speakers available....from Celestion, Z, and others. The Z 10's are VERY nice and wouldn't change a thing if you want/need Ceramic speakers. The thing I like about the Tone Tubbies is they seem to cut the volume in any Cab down a bit and allow you to open up the Amp a bit more....sounding warm and smooth.

I love them. I use the ceramic and alnico in a maz18 2x12. I like them better than the blues that I had in it before. The blend of the two sounds good, but I only mic the alnico one.

I started my experiment. The Bob Burt cab now has a 10" TT alnico and the G21H30. The TT replaced a Celestion (English) Vintage 10. Big improvement. Less ice pick (the G12H30 is still doing that, though), some nice alnico squishiness, more low end, warmer. I like it a lot, and may very well order a TT 12" to go with it. The Maz Jr is actually a 2x10 combo with Celestion V10s (Built before Dr Z started using his own speakers). I've always liked them in that amp/cab. But the Burt cab seems to give a brighter sound.

You'll probably LOVE the 12" Tubbs then...

So, I'm thinking of getting a 10 and a 12 TT alnico. Jeff, I had just built a cab for my Maz JR with a 10" and a 12" in it, trying to get the best of both worlds. I ordered a Silver 10 and a 12" Blue Dog from Weber for it. I also had just put a 12" Ceramic Tone Tubby in my Peavey Classic 30. The Classic 30 seemed a little too warm/dark, so I pulled the TT and put it in the cab with the Silver 10, and I'm really happy with the sound. Hope this helps in your tone quest. ...............weedman www.bigdaddyweed.com

At some point I think a 12" TT is going to be in that cab, along with the 10" that's in there now. Can't swing it just yet, but soon. I also think that I'll replace one of the Celestion V10s in my Jr combo with a TT 10. Really like the sound of these speakers.

How would a ceramic TT be compared to a G12H?

Be nice if the good Dr. did some testing with TT's to see if they are much better then the stock speakers and offer them at least as an option .

The newer tone tubbies are different in sound. They have a new voice coil, the speakers are faster in response and have more upper harmonics. If the 1st generation of TT were to dark for you the new ones are much better. With my maz jr and my 2x12 tone tubby cab, with an alnico and a ceramic, I ended up putting a little egg crate type insulation in the cab, it keeps the low end under control. I played my maz and cab today for about an hour, and it was a great sound. Those of you with Tubs and like me have to much bass, might want to due a little sound proofing inside your cab. You can always remove it if you don't like the sound. For now I just put it though the small football size hole in the back and carefully moved it to the right places. Bottom line, I like the Tubs, especially the alnico-ceramic mix.
