Just a quick question! Today I replaced my V4 GT12AX7M with a good one. I pulled the V5 12AX7 and it is a Sovtek brand tube. Is this a big deal? Does having a Sovtek GT12AX7 (LPS) and a Groove Tubes 12AX7M running at the same time a big deal? This is how the amp arrived to me. I only ask because I do not want to affect my tone. Also, it shoes V1 and V2 as having ECC83. However, on the Groove Tubes tube this is in parantheses next to the designation GT12AX7M. Can someone explain this to me?

In addition, why are the tubes that came with my amp different from what the doc lists the amp should have as per his website?

Here is the preamp correct flowchart for a maz jr. with reverb; V1 =ecc83S V2=ecc83S V3=Gt12at7C V4=GT-12ax7R V-5 =12ax7R2 Upgrade would be MAZMHG to cover V!, V2 and V5 ,provideing a ballenced tube for the phase inverter circuit., and two high er gain tubes for v1 and v2. I,m sure to keep prices from going up , the Dr. supplys what he can get least expense on. Groove tubes are always considered an upgrade to me. I can't speak for the Dr., but it would be a resonable assumption. Re-tubing with groove Tubes in a Maz 18 with reverb will retail for about $175.00 for Power, preamp and rectifier tubes. If your gonna go anything, at least use a sagax7mpi in V5 so you get even push and pull from your powertubes. A very noticable difference. This is modest Myles dept, and he doesnt toot his own horn much....but we do. His work is astounding. Warren

That is the Phase Inverter (PI) tube and the Sotvek LPS (Long Plate) tubes are very good/desirable tubes for that position. If you like your tone and don't want to affect it, then the tubes you currently have are the ones you need. 12AX7 and ECC83 are the same tube with different designators, or names. Generally, in Europe and other countries they are referred to as ECC83. Ray K.
