Gents,
I just picked up a Therapy this weekend. Upon replacing the head cab (it came with a blonde cab in VERY rough shape), I noticed a 5751 in V1.
The amp sounds great as is but has more gain then ill ever use.
Has anyone tried a 12AY7 in V1? How much gain does the therapy drop with this change. I dont turn the GV past noon so i guess what im looking for is for a wider sweep of say the GV from 0-noon on the dial.

What it sounds like in practice is a different story. Sounds like it would do what I want it to, but I'm curious how much volume i will lose. I mean, if I'm being honest this amp really delivers. Awesome Z Wreck feel! Im just fine tuning at this point. |

I put an AY7 in V-1 of my Therapy before I ever switched it on for the first time. I bought it solely for big bottle tweed flavored cleans and all of my previous tweed amps (mostly Victorias) had AY7's.

If so, at what point on the volume knob did it start breaking up? |

Well, as I've never played my Therapy with any other tube in V-1, I don't have any basis for comparison. I also never play it at, or near, the breakup point. Sorry. Maybe another Therapy owner will help you out.

I quit playing out not too long after I got it from benttop but it was plenty loud playing clean in a 5 piece blues band. I forget what speaker and cab I was using back then but the Therapy always had the 12AY7 and 6L6GC's. Now that I'm a basement player, I don't play very loud (65-75 db).
