wondering if theres any tricks or settings that you know of. ive fiddled and pondered and just cant come up with anything. im looking for a rounded, more direct tone. i realize another amp would be probably the best choice but i dont really have the budget for one right now. im using a g&l asat special. would humbuckers possibly help me achieve my goal? any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

try turning the cut almost off, treble way low, mids at 2:00 or 3:00 and minimal bass. This is how I set my maz 38 sr.

Steve, This is why I went from my Maz JR to My MAZ SR... for a bigger cleaner tone with some hair. but since then after really playing with my Maz SR alot.... I went back and tried the JR again at Elite Music in Montgomery to see if I could get a little fatter tone than I did before and figured you need to try this to get it.... 1st before you change anything.... plug into the LOW input and MAX the MASTER volume then just use the volume as if it were a non master amp... this will get you the CLEANEST biggest roundest tone you can get out of either Maz... 2nd and this is where you fatten it up and get a little hair back but is very subjective so just use you ears... start with ALL the tones and cut knob at ZERO ( you can also start with all controls at NOON if you prefer)... turn the treble up ( or probably down if you started from noon) just to where you need it to be...then mid and bass to taste looking for that rounder fat tone... NOTE: don't be afraid to either MAX one out or turn one almost completely off as the TONE STACKS on the Maz are NOT like what your used to from F$nder or M$rshall... after you've got your tone nice and round then turn up your CUT from zero until you get just a little hair on the notes so that when you hit a boost it'll be fatter and even mo hairy or an OD pedal set like you like it and it will roar... ( BTW... this setting will work on the MAZ SR also) Now if you've tried this and are STILL not quite happy with the fattness ( and this is where I was and never got to try a different speaker..I think the V-30 in MY combo was the culprit and part of the problem I was hearing) THEN: 3rd... Speakers... change the speaker especially if your using a V-30, unless it's combined with the G12-H30 ( but I'd still swap them around and try a different one.. you'll be suprised at the difference this makes) You might try a Weber ( HIGHLY RECOMENDED AND WILL Tame Highs and fatten a bit..) or a especially a Tonker for a much bigger fuller sound. also....If your using DR Z's 10" speakers alreay then you should be set cause they ARE fat and you just need to get some weber BEAM BLOCKERS in em so they aren't laser beam's to the ears and your set... those speakers are REAL fat in my GHIA 2x10... 4th...Tubes... try a few different tubes... either tell Myles what your going for and get em from him or go with NOS stuff ( highly recommend this route as the NOS tubes MADE my GHIA come to LIFE!!) from Mike at KCA... can also speak with him about what you need to get the sound your after/ which tubes would get ya there... all of this will be cheaper than a new amp and you will know exactly what your amp is capable of after your through and also whether you just need a different amp... I KNOW now that I could be happy with a MAZ JR.. it's a great amp and different than the SR... ( paired with my GHIA would be awsome) but am also very happy with my MAZ SR and STINGRAY so..... I hope this helps Jason

I also noticed you DO have a 2x10... for about $15.00 a piece GET a couple of those WEBER Beam Blockers and try em… man you can crank it and point that thing right at your head and it won’t bother you OR your audience… can hear the amp better when moving around from side to side too because you get better dispersion… works GREAT in my GHIA 2x10 combo. can tilt it back toward your head and still hear it even playin with a loud band...
can also get one of those Y cables as talked about in another thread on the forum to run an extension cab for it... I've done this running the ghia's tens with a 2x12 ext cab and get a BIG sound... could try that too...
come back to this post and let me know what ya did/ tried and if if worked for ya... be interested to see what worked or what didn't...

Try this: Reverb - 9 O'clock Cut - 8 to 9 O'clock Master - 8 to 11 O'clock for desired overall loudness Bass - 11 O'clock - (I know a guy that dimes the Bass on a MAZ Junior) Middle - 1 to 2 O'clock Treble - 10 O'clock Volume - MAX with a Strat, 3 to 4 O'clock with a Les Paul
If that doesn't work....nothing will.
