Just received my 2010 Ghia back from Don at Headquarters. It received a new master volume install on the front panel. This has always been a great amp. Now it is made even greater. With the volume coming down in so many places (not necessarily a bad thing) the new PPI master volume adds to its versatility and the tonal palette.
My NOS amp is rehoused into its 1x10 cabinet. (I also have a head cab for it) Talk about a grab and go gem; this is it in spades. A special thanks to Don and crew. They did the install and gave it a once over for good measure. I highly recommend this service for anyone on the fence.
Thanks again Don and Doc for making this service available. What a great organization. Dr. Z amps is the standard by which all companies should be measured.
Nuff said.

They did the same to my Ghia head last year. Great job.

I have been running my Ghia with the Air Brake set as high as 4 and love the tone. It's an older version with the conjuctive filter which does not sound bright at all. The bedroom level serves its purpose but can sound a little squashed. Unlike the comments I have seen about the Brake Lite, that the tone quality starts diminishing past 2 clicks. I believe everything that I have read about the quality of the Master Volume upgrade. Based on this, would you send your amp in for the upgrade? Thanks.

While you may like the sound of the conjunctive filter without much attenuation, it isn't doing you any favors as you drive the tubes hard then push the volume down with the attenuator, unfortunately, it will make the attenuated output sound even more compressed and "squashed" as you put it. The PPIMV circuit in the current Ghia (non-conjunctive) is an improvement for lower volume playing, but I would send a message to Don to ask him his opinion on coupling the conjunctive filter circuit with the PPIMV. He might have a better idea of what exactly to expect, and will always give you an honest answer as to what he thinks should be done to get what you want out of the amp.

…Based on this, would you send your amp in for the upgrade? Thanks. My initial answer to your question is absolutely. But take Frankie’s advice. Don will shoot you straight as many here on the forum will attest.
