Great to see an octal preamp design. Always had my interest as an alternative to the “peanut tubes”. So, with this amp, how does the preamp work in general terms? As in, how many gain stages, does it require a cathode follower to drive the signal through the tone stack, and is the PI the final triode in the preamp?

Great to see an octal preamp design. Always had my interest as an alternative to the “peanut tubes”. So, with this amp, how does the preamp work in general terms? As in, how many gain stages, does it require a cathode follower to drive the signal through the tone stack, and is the PI the final triode in the preamp? uh, duh, no idea! But from a players standpoint, and maybe simplifying it a little, but it's a fantastic sounding clean amp with lots of headroom, yet has a nice tube compression to it which is hard to describe. Like if you are playing an EZG or say an Antidote set really clean and pretty loud, you can still hit the guitar hard and kind of knock someone over with volume while remaining clean. This is way more forgiving in that way, yet you can still turn the master up and get more overall volume. Hard to convey that in a video. It also has plenty of lows or hight without getting muddy or ice picky. Just kind of a nice, balanced sound and easily tweakable. The other thing which is hard to describe is I think we want to put something in a "box" and classify it like does it sound something like a fender/marshall/vox, but it doesn't really sound like any of those. Not anything like the Z's I've tried. What I kept thinking when I had the prototype for a while was "if you kind of wanted a deluxe reverb, this is that (kind of), but much better". Like if you were looking at taking a DR or Octal to a gig, you'd pick the octal every time. Same type of portability (maybe a bit lighter), but one sounds way better and is way more fun to play. I didn't exactly answer the question.

“and Mike already has one!” Hahaha Yes, he does. Great overview, Doc! This is a special amplifier and should be high on the list for players to check out!
