Im looking at getting a jetta. from the clips Ive heard it sounds great, nice big thick beefy tone. I'm torn between this and a z lux as I prefer american tones vs british. I also just picked up a cure. Is the z lux and cure alot in the same tones? would it be too much over lap? Also has the jetta had any updates from when it first came out? there's a used one on reverb from 2020 that I'm considering making an offer on but not sure if theres an mkii version of it or if it has stayed original since the original came out. any thoughts/help would be appreciated

I think it's a most versatile amp. You can make it sound like anything, with the right pedal. Fantastic, pedal platform! Thick Fender like tones but not scooped like Blackface and not all mids like a tweed. tons of clean headroom and if you turn the tone knobs up to 3 PM, it gets really Gainey. I have one on sale on reverb fwiw, but that is not why am recommending it to you.. It's really a do-all Amp imo

The Jetta has huge bold cleans and a nice edge of breakup as well. It's an incredible pedal platform and I absolutely love it for blues. It's such a simple amp and that's part of the magic. I love my Cure for blues as well amazing amp. Mine is the 5881 version and I previously owned the 6V6 version. I sold the 6V6 one within a week of getting the 5881.
I believe the Jetta did undergo a small change at some point with the master volume, but I believe it was only a taper issue, not a tonal issue. The Doc or Frankie would know for sure. I'm sure they'll chime in.

I can't speak to the Jetta, but the Z-Lux and Cure have been my main amps for several years. My Lux has all the latest upgrades and it is quite simply the best amp I've ever owned.

Jetta is a great Blues amp! Its hard to describe it because its really its own thing, kinda like a tweed Deluxe thats been souped up, more headroom, tighter and more clarity. Its thick like a Route 66, but of course has that cathode biased glow to it. I like the sound of 12ax7 when plugging straight in and the Jetta gets a great medium gain overdrive. Punch the front end with an overdrive and the Jetta will flat get up and howl, it can really sing at higher volumes! The master of course works great, its Z’s post phase inverter design dialed to perfection.
The Jetta is its own thing and really special amp, the 7591 is a BEAUTIFUL sounding output tube with a really nice sweet spot of output, less than a 6L6GC but more than a 6v6 or EL84. Tone to the bone!

Is there a lot of overlap between the cure and z lux? There is, but I wouldn't call the Cure a Lux Jr. I love both of them! Besides the reverb and tremolo, there is something more refined in the Lux. It's smoother and breaks up a little differently. When I was still in the rock band, my bandmates were very uncertain of me replacing the Cure with the Lux until the first rehearsal. They were all surprised in the in difference!

Thought I’d chime in…. I think the Jetta is probably the greatest sounding amp I’ve ever owned!! I play Blues, Rock and even some country here and there….the Jetta simply fills the bill on all counts!! The clarity of the Jetta is amazing. I use a tube screamer for that smooth overdrive and a MXR Super Badass Distortion For the nastier tones. All my pedals sound great thru the Jetta….even my cheap pedals sound good in it!! The Dr is a genius!! Brett

Thought I would give you my two cents worth. I had a Cure and now have a Jetta and an older Z-lux. I think the Cure and Lux would overlap some. The Lux would have more headroom of course. I sold my Cure as I needed a bit more headroom and got a Jetta. The Cure has beautiful tone and I really liked the master volume. The Jetta fits the bill for more headroom. It is a simple amp, but has tons of tone and sounds great with pedals as did the Cure. To me the Lux has more headroom and has a different vibe than the Jetta. I am still getting used to the Jetta, but it is a great amp with a lot of tones in it. It has a different sound to my ears than any other Z-amp I have had or tried.
