Well, after months of research and lurking etc. I finally bought a Jr. NR head with Z 2x10 cab. I needed a more mobile/versatile setup for club gigs, and I was also looking to improve my tone and find inspiration. Mission accomplished! Right out of the box I couldn't believe how touch sensitive, dynamic, and complex the tone was. It inspired me to play for hours and even simplify my pedalboard without sacraficing versatilty. Guitar players notoriously suffer from GAS and I'm certainly no exception. To be a guitar player is to be on a constant quest for that sound in your head. A never ending process of reading / trying / buying anything that might help you get a millimeter closer to purity. My new Jr. has given me a break from my GAS. I'm able to focus on the music. I can sleep at night without wondering what I'm missing by not having a Zendrive 2, or not having everything connected to a looper and a MIDI board. Yes, for the time being I am free to create. But it would be cool to have a Rt. 66, and maybe a StangRay!!!

Ah, grasshopper...the assent to Z-ness is the answer to GAS, but in Z-ness you will find GAS leads to greater Z-ness! Seriously, welcome to the tone-conscious family of the Z-bretheren. Enjoy your relief for now, for it is only the beginning of a greater form of GAS, or what we refer to on the forum as Z-GAS. These amps are uniquely addictive. Believe me, from my own experience, if you are truly taken by your JR, this will be your first of more Z's to come. Again, welcome to the forum! -Greg

The problem with "the sound in your head" is you don't know it until you hear it. I keep trying new things until eventually I realize I've found part of it. The next challenge is to find another piece of it. The only thing I've found out for sure after all these years of seeking is that it's cathode bias and it's Voxy. In our lifetime's we'll be lucky if we find most of it, let alone all of it, but it's the journey that's fun. Not necessarily arriving at the destination, that's why we're here!

Well done boys. Thanks for the welcome. And I agree. The journey is what's exciting. What a beautiful thing it is to have a passion. May we all achieve our tonal goals in this lifetime.

Is it a passion or obsession? Both.
