Can anybody out there comment on the difference these speakers make in a Maz 18?

I have a Greenback in my Maz Jr and I have a V30 in a Randall Iso-Cab for recording. I would say that they both sound as advertised. How's that for being less than helpful. Just kidding. The Greenback has its own character in that it provides a bit more bottom, dips the mids a little, and then kicks in on the upper end which all results in its 'woody' sound. The V30 is a little more neutral and to me is a bit more middy. I still sound like 'me' through the Maz & either speaker. I play blues & rock and I really thought that I would miss the Greenback when recording with the V30. But, I find that I like both and wish that I had both set up for recording. The sound clips on this German Music Store web site really capture the essence of what I hear through my own amp. This probably makes sense since they're using a Dr Z. Check the clips out at www.proguitar.de/AudioDemo/CompareSpeaker/CompareSpeaker.html

vintage 30 is probably going to be too bright in a maz 18. Especially if you play singlecoils. I have them in other amps, but love the stock speaker in my maz. A bigger (more expensive change) would be to go to alnico speaker such as a tone tubby, or weber, or fane. chip

Errr..... okay..... I'm embarrassed. Apparently i only thought i had a V30 in my Maz. Its a G12H after all. But you knew that. I deleted my last comments that were made through well intentioned ignorance ;D Soooo hows your Maz Sounding?

It's Hal--the guy that started this thread. I have the G12 in my Maz. It is very full range--more bottom than you would expect from an amp this small, and plenty of high end. Actually, I've always thought that the treble came from the Maz 18 circuit. I find that I set the mid knob(more like high mid) and treble at about 10-11 o'clock with the bass at around 12:00. Then, depending on how it sounds in the room I'm playing(get away from the amp to check this) I adjust the cut. It usually ends up around 9-10:00.
What I'm saying is this is a great amp, but it seems to have way more treble than I need for Humbuckers or Single coils. So I don't need a Greenback for sure. Any thoughts from others about the high end of a Maz 18? Thanks.

On my Maz 38 sr I set the cut barely on at all and the treble about 9:00, I like it pretty dark.

After listening to the clips... man the V30 sounds very sweet. The Green Back and G12H were pretty close in tone... Good for hard rock stuff. I have a V30 in my Ghia and one in my Z-best 2x12, the other is a G12H. I think it just rounds the sound out.
Good website! I went on to compare delay's and effects. I like the Eletroharmonix Memory Man the best!
