It took me a couple of months but I think I cracked the code yesterday. 20 watt setting. 5751 in V1. Master at 1:00. Mids almost off. Treble & bass just below noon. Open back 1x12 Z cab with a G12-65. I've owned a 64 and a 65 DR and three DRRI's in the past. While they all sounded a bit different, they all had a common core tone and feel that I was searching for in the Lux. The real test will come tomorrow when my Strat comes up in the playing rotation but I think I found "it".

I hope it works. Let us know. BTW, I have a NOS 5751 in V1 on both my Maz 8 & Z-Plus. Great sounding tube.

I do almost the exact same thing with a JAN GE 5751 in V1 (and I've done some minor upgrades in various pre-amp positions). The main difference, I think, is that I also run a matched quad of medium grade Tung-Sol 5881 reissues in the power section, which absolutely gives me something closer to a mini-Super or Twin reverb sound in terms of headroom, etc. I've also stuck with the stock Z-12 speaker which is a very American voiced beast. I like it so much I've actually bought a back up in the unthinkable event mine blows up (even after trying a few high-end "upgrades").

Well, those settings passed the Strat test just fine. As usual, YMMV on any of this tone related stuff.
