I’m a big fan of the Celestion G12-65 and I honestly believe that WGS hit the note with the ET-65, ET-90, and the High Powered Blackhawk. Those big magnates, and big dust cover, really make a wonderful round tone that really pleasing to my ears. What I found though is sometimes at lower playing levels, or even some restricted rehearsal levels the tone can be a tad dark and that speaker just doesn’t give it up because its not being worked hard enough. I often think “What if that speaker was like 25 watts instead of 65,90,100?”. Well a few years ago I bought a Celestion G12L-35 local off of FB Maketplace for $25. I kept it around then one day my buddy Doug and I were doing a speaker shootout and the very last speaker I said “Hey I have this $25 Dollar Speaker let’s try it.” We put it in the cab, I hit a chord and Doug said “Well that didn’t suck.” LOL Somewhere down the road I sold that speaker, but I have tried other light speakers including Neo’s but never bonded with a Neo or a light Alnico the way that I did with the G12L. So recently I bought another one, but could only find a 4ohm. I put it in matched up with the RT66 and I have to say once again that I was total shocked that it sounded so good. The speaker moves, its brighter, than a G12-65 but still sounds like it is EQ’ed the same way. Very Very cool speaker that can be had cheap, and still yield great tone. A great speaker that I’m surprised they having rebadged and brought back with rise of shipping cost. Keep your eye out if you love the 1265 sound but need to cut the weight, need a speaker that might work better with a lower powered amp, or to slightly brighten up a darker amp.

Celestion has a Midnight 60 that is supposed to sound like a G12L. Nope, the “Magnet Assemble is similar to the G12L”. It’s a V Type with an L Style Magnet, it may sound good, but not the same. I like the V Type, the A Type, the V Type Neo was a let down.
