It’s been a good year and a half since I got my Mkii. In that time I’ve experimented with many speakers. 10” 12” and 15”. The stock creamback is a good all rounder for sure and great with drive but I was missing some magic. That turned out to be the Fane A60. I have a solid 20 hours on it now and it’s been a joy to hear it break in. It gives me more latitude with the tone controls and operates differently than the other contenders. With the amp set around the onset of drive the range of tones from brushing the strings to digging in are truly inspiring using a Strat straight in. The volume difference remains similar between the two touch extremes which opens a huge pallet of available sounds to colour a song. Not unlike a fine acoustic instrument. The A60 keeps its presence and every nuance is brought forward. Off the top of my head I don’t recall this happening in quite the same way with the array of speakers I’ve tried over the years. Words are small and often over used but this one seems different. I have the stock creamback in as oversized pine cab that sounds good and it sounds lifeless in comparison to the A60. If I was jamming rock tones all night the creamback would be my choice but for clean to light drive and the uncanny feeling like you’re reaching inside the amp while playing it’s the Fane A60 for me. Now I have speakers to sell.

Cream and S75 PVC sound great at certain sounds but more modern gain, think STP just brightens up too much. The Creamback m65 and Scumback m75-pvc really straddle that balance where the cleaner and light to medium drive still have plenty of sparkle, and the harder hitting stuff really sings without getting to edgy in the highs. Lotta speakers I’m curious about so always good to read something about a speaker off the beaten path.

I agree with the alnico voiced speakers. With the speakers I have on hand the Fane A60 allowed the full voice out of the MKii to come out. Way more top end and a more open low end. Balance is the word that comes to mind. I play clean and light gain and it’s perfect for me. All my guitars sound more natural but my strat is magical through this setup.

Do I really want another speaker? You guys are killing me! I have a Mkii head and bought a Creamback to put into a 1X12 cab. Great choice for this amp. A while back I tried a Jensen Blackbird 40 with my Z-Plus and really liked it. I build my own cabs and one of my favorites is a 2X12 slant top with an open back. I loaded a Creamback and a Jensen Blackbird 40 Alnico in that cab and the MKii sounds incredible with it. I always wanted to try a 2x10 cab, so I built a slant top and loaded it with the 10" versions of the Creamback and the Blackbird. It is now my favorite with the Mkii. Tight bass and the Blackbird adds just the right amount of sparkle. There is something about mixing Alnico and Ceramic. Fane 60 you say? Hmmm.
