I’ve always leaned into the Brit style amps and had Z Maz Jr’s and currently own a MKII combo. I like it a lot but wanted more 3D cleans and overall versatility. Decided to go Z28 MKII combo. I received it yesterday! I’m setting it up with a tad of breakup and trying a variety of boosts and dirt pedals to determine the best fit.
I’m in a bar cover band that does a wide range of musical styles and that’s my main reason for this “pedal platform “ setup..
What’s your favorite dirt or boost pedal with this amp?
My inclination would be to set the pedal fat and roll my guitar volume back so I can control a range of drive from my guitar. I’ve also layered pedals but find the tone tends to get a bit congested at times.
This might be second nature to y’all, but I’ve always run my amps with a lot of drive and then rolled back, sacrificing my clean clarity

I have a King of Tone; red side OD, yellow side CLEAN. With Fender guitars, I keep the red side on all the time and ride the guitar volume for more overdrive. With Gibson guitars, I don’t keep the red side on unless I really need more gain.

I have a head. Never heard the combo. FWIW I play in a cover band as well and keep my amp clean and use pedals for dirt and other flavors. For clean tones I engage an Xotic Super Clean. For dirt I switch between an OCD and a Nobles ODR with the fat switch off. To boost leads, I hit an Xotic EP Booster. It works well to boost the super clean as well. I've been on the waiting list for a King of Tone since Aug 2018 so hoping to hear from Analogman soon. I hear a lot of good things about it.

Ah, the King of Tone, had one and sold it many years ago. I can’t believe the wait list is still so long!
I have a BB preamp, RC Booster, Lightspeed, Keeley Muse, and an ODR style pedal.(not all on my board). I also have a Boss GE-7 and an EP Booster. I’m kind of sampling each with the Z at this time, plus trying to dial the amp at the same time.

I use the "blue" clipping setting which is like a Timmy. Very transparent, will just sound like more gain without adding any coloration. The only thing I detect is a little more compression. They make a mini version too now. It's featured in this quick Z-28 video we made:

That definitely does not seem to be the typical OD-into-a-clean-amp sound!!!

Update:
I can’t believe how much I like this amp! I’ve never owned a Fender or D style amp, only Brit voiced amp! Only time I played and American voiced am was an outdoor show backline Super reverb. The clean, driven, and pedal induced drive are great! The amp feels great too.
