Hey guys. I am returning after 11-12 years away. I foolishly sold my Z-28 head in 2012. However I just bought a Z-28 Mk.II head. Wow! Nice versatile amp for me. Very pleased. I have a couple of different sounding cabs and the good news is they all sound great.
Where can I buy Psvane Small bottle 5881 or Boutique BT-5881? Are they the same thing? I don't intend to need them but I don't have any backups for a rainy day.

Thanks for the reply. I did find the long/short bottle confusing. I've got it straight now.

I just bought a set of tung sol 5881 from amplified parts. The boutique brand which came with the amp failed pretty fast. I did leave the amp on overnight a couple times so maybe that was the problem?
Either way, the tung sol sound great. Just a heads up….

I think I saw a post from Doc, around the end of January, where he said that recent Psvane 5881s have had a high failure rate so he has been using Tung-Sol's 5881s. I have searched for the post but have not found it. I do know that I ordered a pair after that post, just in case the short bottle Psvane's I have have problems. Can't hardly have too many tubes! Especially for my Z-28 since it is my most used amp.

Get the short bottle tung sol 5881 as the doc himself recommends. Perfect for the amp. I’m really loving my z28mkii combo. Like you I foolishly sold my mki 1x10 and am back in the z camp. I can’t imagine selling this one!
Love mine with an alnico cream! Enjoy in good health

Thanks again everybody. I'll order the Tung Sol 5881s in case my BT-5881s fail.
Speaker-wise I have tried an open back birch ply cab with a WGS ET65 12" and an open back pine cab with a WGS Veteran 10". Both sound great and are very different given the same amp settings. The amp is so versatile I can make one sound almost like the other. I'll keep the watts down on the Veteran since it is only rated at 20W. Maybe I need a higher wattage speaker for the 10? But prefer to keep it since the plan was to have a smaller lighter cab with an inefficient speaker for around the house and low volume rehearsals/gigs.

I have the same two speakers and have been experimenting. Quite like the Vet10. Thinking a pair would be great but I do enjoy the low volume tone with a single.

Thanks again everybody. I got the Apex Matched Tung Sol 5581s from Amplified Parts today. They sound great. I might leave them in and save the BT-5881 as spares. On my speaker journey I'm using a Weber DT-12 in one cab and a WGS Veteran 10 in the other. Both are 8 ohms so never at the same time. They are both about as inefficient as I have been able to find. I'm playing at lower volumes at home and at rehearsals so they are working out great. Neither have the low end of the ET65 I had been using and like, but again I am all about lower volume right now. That PPIMV is amazing. So is the volume control on my guitar with this amp. I've almost forgotten how to use my boost/dirt pedals.
