I have been contemplating grabbing a Cure for a while now and recently found a used one in mint condition. It’s a 3/17 build with the 6V6 power tubes. UPS delivered it yesterday and I have been playing the hell out of it. I’m quite simply blown away with this amp. I have seen where a lot of people claim you can’t get a bad sound out of it and I whole heartedly agree! Right now I’m running it with the volume about 1 and the master maxed. Z Drive and KOT sound great through it. I’m using an Eventide H9 in front with a spring reverb setting.
I’m in a five piece band with another guitarist and a sax player. We end up in a lot volume restricted environments with tight stages. My Lux has been doing fine in these venues but seems to be a bit overkill at times. Really looking forward to gigging this amp! What’s everyone’s experience been like in a full band situation? Does the 6V6 version hold its own or should I consider sending the amp in for the 5881 conversion? I’m really digging the sound so feel like I’m find with the 6V6s if the amp can keep up.

Congratulations on the Cure, it's a wonderful amp. The 6V6 vs 5881 question, both are awesome and you can't go wrong either way. I've owned both at the same time, and my preference is the 5881 version. It is somewhat louder, but more importantly, (in my opinion), it's fuller sounding as well. I'd recommend putting it through its paces, and seeing if it meets your needs as is. If it does, no need to send it back to Don, if it doesn't give you all you want, Don can easily remedy, (no pun intended) that. The Cure is a phenomenal amp!!
Enjoy it!
