I got a looper. I did't realize how complicated it could be. I want to use it to make backing tracks for live acoustic shows. But......

I got a looper. I did't realize how complicated it could be. I want to use it to make backing tracks for live acoustic shows. But...... my advice is just to learn how to make a single clean loop before anything else. Not hard but takes a little practice. Then you can move on to building additional tracks to the loop or exploring any advanced features like fading, sequencing loops, etc.
i have a Pigtronix double looper with all sorts of advanced features i never touch. i don't use it for performing. just make simple loops for practicing. can't recommend a looper enough for guys who want a jamming buddy who never gets tired of playing rhythm.

A Looper will magnify any issue on how good your timing is! The Ditto pedal did that for me! Oh, and I've posted this before, but Mr. Gilbert plays it well!

Swinging eights , playing in front, or behind the beat…….. if you use the quantizing feature, it seems to remove the soul, the swagger, the swing…..

I recently purchased the Singular Sound Aeros looper and their Beat Buddy pedal. I’ve started putting together a set worth of tunes w/ backing tracks for the duo with my wife. My goal is to create the band behind us allowing me to incorporate electric guitar for solos etc. I don’t know much about the RC 5, but the Aeros will allow recording of up to 6 song parts with six tracks per part. Most importantly for us is we don’t have to play them in linear fashion. Via midi we can jump around and repeat a bridge several times as my wife is prone to call out on several songs. That’s easy to do as a solo acoustic guitar. With the Aeros looper we’ll be able to maintain that spontaneity. The Beat Buddy drum machine will follow via midi. Once programmed it’s a tap dance on the midi pedal.
I empathize when you refer to the complicated nature of the task. I’ve got about six songs done. I should have more, but I have to find the motivation to lay down the various parts, then program their midi address so I can call them up on stage. I’ve got it figured out, but it’s no small task. Like anything it becomes easier with repetition, so hang in there. Poodle’s advice is dead on start small and build on the small victories.

I just want a simple backing track for a select number of songs.

I've never been able to get right with loopers. In the right hands they can be amazing tools, but not in my hands!

I think they're discontinued now, but I found a used Digitech JamMan Express...I don't think there's a simpler one made if you're wanting something very basic.
