I have a 22 or 23 year old Maz 38 SR 2x10 which is my go-to amp. Recently, I swapped the orig Z speakers out for Celestion Greenback 10s. I was looking for some earlier breakup at lower volume so I didn't have to use the Airbrake all of the time. I'm not using any pedals so... My question for those more knowledgeable than me- is it is unusual for the amp to not be as loud with those speakers? I seem to notice an overall drop in volume. Thanks

Yep, they are much less efficient that just about any 10” out there.

I much like greenbacks for that woody , reedy tone , Brit for sure and wonderfully inefficient :-)

It's not unusual...that should be normal. 10" greenback are rather inefficient speakers. (They're less loud compared to other speakers given the same amount of power from an amp) So you can turn up the amp louder...which means more breakup at lower volume.

That is one of the many great things about greenbacks.

Thanks to all- so I need to decide between the early breakup or more headroom- much appreciated

You could always pick up a used 2x10 cab with Greenies in it and use it for smaller venues.
