I've got a MAZ 18 2x12
I keep the preamp at 2:00 and the master anywhere from 12:00 to 3:00
I get a real flabby bottom end on the low (pitched) E string.
I turn the bass to where you just begin to hear it kick in....basically trying to dial it out. But I have to turn the bass all the way off.
Any suggestions?

Celestions?

Yeah, forgot to add....two Celestion G30H...but that shouldn't make a difference, it still does it even when I've got it squashed down with an attenuator.
I played around with it some more. Looks like I need to play back and forth with the volume vs master. If I run the master over, say, 12:00, then I need to back off the volume knob. Running both up high is causing it.
I'm cursed I come from a high-gain background!!

It's probably the speakers. I have the same issue with a G12H30 212 setup in my Maz Jr. Bass is more/less kept where it just starts to color the tone - pretty low - it gets really woofy anywhere beyond that. Will have a set of Webers in there next week. Should take care of it. Tinkered with some different tubes to see if that was the culprit but alas it was not.
If you have 2 G12H30's in the amp, you might keep one and pop for a V30 as a compliment. Amazing pairing.

Cut back on your sugar intake, and move around on stage more. This should help a flabby bottom.

Sorry to drudge up an old thread. I've been lingering around for a while, but this is my first post.
I'm having this same problem with a flabby bottom end. I'm using a maz 18 jr NR into a z best cab with a V30 and a G12H30. I'm having a hard time keeping things clean and keeping the low end tight and punchy. It seems like when I've got things bright enough to keep the low strings snappy, the high strings are like an ice pick and when I've got the top end dialed in well, the bottom end lacks definition and clarity. Any suggestions?

18 watt amps aren't going to have as strong a bottom as higher wattage amps. Especially if you're used to 40 watters or more. You might also want to retube.

I have this issue with the maz 18 NR as well. It seems as if there is a ton of bass.... to much! Getting it dialed out is tricky. I did find that using 2x10's tames the bass just fine. I can barely use the maz on a 2x12 cab... I find a 1x12 is better. But so far for me, I like the maz with 2x10's for the very reason stated on this thread.

I've been thinking about a 2x12 or a 1x12 with this amp to try and tame that bottom end a little. I've got some 1x12 cabs so I'll give that a whirl. The thing I'm struggling with is so many people seem to love the maz 18 with a z best cab so I'm trying to figure out how they tame the low end and keep everything tight and punchy without being overly bright. Any of you running a maz 18 and z best have any words of wisdom?

I was luck to trade one of my G12H30's for a V30 with someone on the forum who wanted to do the same thing. Of course a ceramic blue and a ceramic silver Weber pair looks mighty nice too.

The Silver/Blue pairing is amazing. Sounded much better than the V30/G12H30 combo - very balanced and amazing tone. Would suggest a 30 watt Med or Light doping setup in the Maz Jr. DW

you may need to go to a maz 38 if you need lots of clean headroom.i've found that i have to keep the bass at about 9:00 with the zbest[stock].these tone controls are very musical but very different from any amp i've ever owned.that being said, your guitar plays a big part in the overall tone of these incredible amps also. its an adventure.......tons of fun.......enjoy the ride!!!!

That's a thought, maybe you need to lower your pickups at least on the bass side.
