As many of you know, between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, I was and still am a huge Beatles fan. Absolutely no question. I just never was into the Rolling Stones until perhaps the last few years when I really started listening to what Keith was doing on guitar. He simply is an amazing and interesting guitar player utilizing many different tunings. Well, last week I listened to the Stones’ latest release, ‘Hackney Diamonds’ and was completely, COMPLETELY blown away by the compositions, the melodies and hooks, the guitar work, the guitar tones, and the entire CD. WOW! This is one of the finest rock ‘n’ roll albums I’ve ever heard. Did I mention Keith’s guitar tones? For you techies, it looks like he’s using 2 Tweed Fender Twins and achieving this thick crunchy tone while still being able to distinguish each note in the chords. Oh yeah! I like that! Whether you’re a Stones fan or not, it would behoove you to take a listen to their latest effort. I can’t stop listening to it. Oh, and by the way, when he comes to Maryann and Ginger, I’m still going with Maryann!

I’m a huge Beatles fan but never understood why some folks thought you couldn’t like both. I do. They are just different. I now have to check out their new album per your recommendation.

My 2 cents Beatles = best band ever Stones = best R&R band ever but their stage act is getting almost comical these days. Zep a close second. Aerosmith = probably the best US R&R band, mostly due to their huge body of work. Plenty of non-starters in there.
Fav stones songs = b*tch, Cant you Hear Me Knocking, Gimme Shelter

I have been a huge Stones fan and collector for the last 50 years. I have heard how good the new album is, and my budde has offered to burn me a copy, but I will NOT listen to the Rolling Stones without Charlie Watts. NO Charlie, NO Stones! the casual Stones fan I’m sure wouldn’t understand, but the die-hard fan would.

I thought I remembered seeing in an interview that Charlie did appear in one or two tunes on the new album. Per the internet from an interview with Keith Richards, Charlie's on ‘Live By The Sword’ and ‘Mess It Up’ which were recorded in 2019. The rest of the material was written in 2022. I'd say I'm a fan of both the Stones and Beatles. And, I'd say I'm the 'casual' fan although I think I appreciate them both more than the regular 'causal' fan because I'm a musician.

I have a copy coming tomorrow based on what folks are saying in the forum, I have yet to hear anything off of it. Yep, Keith is pretty amazing, in oh so many ways! And yes, with the perennial question of Maryann or Ginger, I still have to go with Maryann!
