I don't think you can replace the lower wattage tubes with higher wattage without modifications to the circuit. The Therapy is the only amp I know of that is capable of running on different output tubes.

jamminjohn which Cure model do you have? Did it come with 6V6’s or 5881’s?

I also have the 5881 Cure. I posed this question before since I had some extra 6L6GT’s. I’ve seen some of the Russian 6L6’s with “5881” literally under the 6L6 screen print, so I was curious.
A 6L6GC can be used in the 5881 Cure, since a 6L6 is in the same family, and is rated to handle more than a 5881. I haven’t tried it though, since I’m really happy with the amp as is. It came with the Russian Tung-Sol brown base 5881’s. I think they have a great sound/feel, so I’m just hanging onto the 6L6’s as a backup pair.
If I didn’t have the 6L6’s, and I had to replace the Tung-Sol’s that are in it, I’d be happy to buy the same 5881 tubes again.

Thanks for the input even though the answers conflict with each other.

Thanks for the input even though the answers conflict with each other. JamminJohn It really depends on the transformers. I would recommend emailing Dr Z and asking.
