I really really am a purist, but sometimes things needs addressed. I purchased this Ghia so I could have the MV installed by the Z shop. I loved the ratty grill cloth on the valence but after the travel back and forth the fabric had all but given up and the Z was coming loose. So I had the correct cloth on hand and decided to give it a go. The funnest thing is the Ghia and two of my Z28’s have this Gold Z with Gold Piping. The cab was also blonde but with white piping. I had not noticed until I sat the head on the cab that the Z on the cab is silver and not gold. Don’t worry, I’m ok with it… Really I’ll survive that it doesn’t match… Seriously I’m over it.

I have to ask, how exactly does the cloth on a head get that worn in 24 years? Did a previous owner tie it to his bumper and drag it home from gigs?

I'm with you in the admiration of gear that has natural wear and tells it's story in that way. But it was a good call to refresh this one and match it up so well with your cab. I like how some of the older blond tolex on Z's gets a little bit of a pink to it.

My question as well, but the tolex looks perfect. How does grill cloth deteriorate like that?

The material itself was breaking down, It just felt dry and brittle. If you touched it, it would flake away.
