I wasn’t sure where to put this, but Peach did a nice demo on the Brown Box Voltage optimizer. I have one and use it to set my wall voltage to 120 for my Z-Plus and Ghia. My wall voltage can vary as high as 125. There is definitely an audible difference when the wall voltage is too high. Also, high wall voltage can cause the tube heater voltage to run high and shorten the life of the tubes.

I have a couple of these. Great units. Very glad I have them around.

But it will not increase the wall voltage if too low, right?

In my area the wall voltage runs 115/116, so I use this ….. Tripp Lite LC1200 Line Conditioner 1200W AVR Surge

I always use one to check the voltage, and then keep it in line if/when I get anything over 120. I took the pic below because this one place was really high. kc

For me in Illinois, 5% over is considered in tolerance. 120*1.05=126 volts which is the max your house should be seeing from each leg. They will measure it where it comes into the house. When I did it, it was a Saturday morning and they had someone out within an hour. If it happens again, might be a good idea to take a picture of it as well as a picture from a decent meter. Might be worth checking some other outlets in the house too.

I just checked the date of the photo and my gig calendar and found it was an event at the Cleveland Zoo where the voltage was 129. I rarely plug in at home, and when I do it's for about 5 minutes just to test something - I should check my home voltage anyway, which I haven't done yet. kc
