I've been using my AirBrake for almost 20 years. I usually turn off my amp (Ghia) or pop on the standby (Maz Jr) when changing the attenuation level. Do I need to turn off the amp to adjust from 4 to 3, 3 to 4, etc?
I thought the answer would be here in the forum or in the manual. But, I couldn't find it and also checked out a Z-Tube AirBrake video. I feel like I should know this answer. But, I don't.

I don’t believe you need to turn off your amp. ME

I know nothing, but I would say no and I wouldn't give it a second thought.
I personally would be a lot more concerned with switching and amp to off and back on, and maybe similarly from standby to on. For instance, take an old school light bulb and when do they blow? When you turn them on. Or maybe an old hard drive, they fail when you cycle the computer on and off. Leave them on and they just work. Nothing from an engineering/physics standpoint, just personal observation. I've heard the same thing about capacitors in that if they can just run, they run forever, but it' the cycling of off and on that kills them. I'm sure excessive heat can factor in to shorten a lifespan, but maybe that's another problem. If someone can disagree with any of this, I'm all ears.

Cool. Thank you all. Common sense prevails even though my cautionary personality was winning in the short run.
I appreciate the input. 😎

as long as the Brake Lite is connected, you've got a load on the amp so the tranny is safe. Changing the attenuation levels won't affect that. Unconnected, the amp is very much at risk.
