Hi there
I really love my Z-Plus, but being primarily a steel player with quite heavy strings and picks the edge of breakup is a little bit sharp. Would the Creamback smooth that element out a bit? I know lots of players prefer Brit speakers in US amps to even things out so I’m wondering if it might suit me better than the Z12?

BR Ben Ben, I am not sure what a steel guitar sounds like through the Z-Plus with regard to sharp tones. I haven't played the Z-12 in the Z-Plus, but I have had a Cream Alnico in there for quite a while and that is really smooth. I had the TT Purple Haze in there for about 6 months and it sounded great. Currently I have an M-65 Creamback in there and that seems to fit the amp the best from my point of view. I haven't answered your question specifically, but I believe the consensus was the Creamback was the best pick amongst this group for that amp. Maybe someone else will chime in

The Creamback will be a little more mid range than the Z-12. I personally prefer the Z-12 in my Z-Plus LT Combo, which is a bit wider than the studio. I play a Strat and Tele with Fralin Pups and 10.5-48 strings. I tested my Scumback M75 in a Princeton Reverb combo cab that is about the size of the studio and found it a bit boxy sounding. The Scumback M75 is basically a Creamback. There is one cheaper thing you could try, a beam blocker. Weber makes them. It sits in front of the cone and diffuses some of the treble. If you sit right in front of the amp when you play, it will cut some of the harsh high end. I’ve used them with some other amps I have and it works well. www.tedweber.com/gadgets/beam-blockers/

I have a G12H-75 Creamback in mine and it is absolutely the perfect speaker for the Z-Plus in my opinion. I've been through a few in there, but that one is a perfect match.

Thanks very much for the comments. Definitely some food for thought I run my Z plus through the Z Best 2x12 with a Vintage 30 and a ceramic Cream back (it's the CAZ45 cab) for my lap steel and its everything I would ever ask for.

I just replaced the Celestion Ruby in my ZPlus with a Creamback M65 and wow! Sounds less conjested and so sweet without being shrill or too bright. A perfect speaker for this amp! I wonder how the Creamback H75 would sound. Likely louder with more bottom. But I’m all about the sweet punchy mids on this amp and keep the midrange control dimed. Sounds incredible!

Would love to hear what you like about the H75 compared to the Ruby or the M65

Would love to hear what you like about the H75 compared to the Ruby or the M65 Much more "bloom" to the notes is the biggest thing. Almost as though a blanket has been lifted off the amp. I'm a fan of both of those speakers. I have a Ruby in my Z-Wreck combo and my 5881 Cure and they both sound amazing. I'm a huge Alnico Gold fan, but I prefer the Ruby in my Wreck. I also have a Quantum Silver Z-Wreck head and matching cabinet. It came with a Blue and a Gold, but I replaced the Blue with a G12H-75 Creamback because I wanted it to be able to handle the power of my Z-80. The combination of the G12H-75 Creamback and the Gold sounds absolutely incredible.

Have you compared it to the Z12 speaker in the Z-Plus? No, mine came with an Alnico Blue.
