My Z-28 MKII combo arrived last week and all I can say is that it’s amazing! This is my first Dr. Z and I'm seriously impressed. I have had many amps over the last 25 years like a Music Man HD-130, Silverface Twin Reverb, Blues Jr., Mesa Rectoverb 25, 40w Mesa Cali Tweed, Mesa Triple Crown, and an Alessandro HW Deluxe Reverb. They all have had their place and I enjoyed them each in their own way. The Z-28 just felt right to me as soon as I plugged it in. There is a connection that I'm feeling with this amp that I have never experienced before. I attribute to the combination of the pick attack and sustain that I feel under the fingers. I just love the tone of the amp and it really works well with all of my different guitar, especially my Gretsch Sparkle Jet! As others have said it works very well with effects, I don't miss having an effects loop at all. The master volume works very well, and the cabinet design makes it sound uncompressed and open, even at low volume. It is very inspiring to me, and it is also the most simple and straight forward amp to dial in that I have ever owned. I know I'm in the honeymoon phase, but I've never bonded with an amp so quickly. I'm glad I finally picked up a DR. Z amp! I think I have fallen down the Z rabbit hole, now worried that I may have to pick up a Z-plus in the future.

The Z-28 MKII is one of Docs best. I also play a Gretsch Jet through it and it sounds great! Probably one of the best gigging amps I've ever played through. I love the other Z's I own but this one is special.

I got my Z-28 MKii 10 days ago.
I own and have owned lots of great tube amps. My first Z was a MAZ 38. I was hooked. Since that time there have been two MAZ Jr's, Galaxie, Prescription ES and a MAZ JR NR.
BUT -- as good as they all were, they all take a back seat to the Z-28 MK ii. I was worried about an amp with only four knobs. Boy, that was unjustified. You don't need any more knobs with this amazing beast.
I have played my Fender, Gibson, PRS, Tom Anderson, and others into it. They all sound great. I have yet to plug any effects into the chain. This amp does so much, I have not found a need for a pedal yet.
Yep, picked a great place to start.

If there was ever a best of all things Z’s do well put into one amp, it’s this one.
