Curious: what KT66 set was stock in your R66; and, if you've changed to a new/different mfg set - which one and what bias setting won the job?
---------- Background: Recent used amp purchase. KTs arrived broken.
Appreciate the input! Cheers!

I like current production Sino (if you can find them) and the Gold Lion KT66 too. Both are great. I bias KT66s at 60%.

I have the first Production Route 66, the first ones came with Groove Tubes KT66 made in Russia and those tubes if you can find them are fantastic. Not sure when they quit making them, maybe early 2000's? I have original GEC KT66's in one of my 66's and the original Russian KT66 in the other. Am not familiar with any of the current production ones.

DC here!
Dont remeber the brand of the original KT66 tubes the amp arrived with - bought mine 1997 from Vintage Guitar in Norway. Bought at one time a genuine NOS pair from KCA Nos - they sounded fine one went bad after awhile an since then
I have bought all my KT66:es TAD Tube Amp Doctor in germany.
I think they are the Sino ones Shuguang - TAD test and match and they generally works fine. My bias is right in the middle of the span DRZ recommends.
Two years ago or so - maybe a little more I read on the net that Shuguang was being dismantled/sold or something - and wouldn't produce more tubes - I cant verify if this is true or not.
I immediately bought another matched pair from TAD - but havent had to put them in yet.
The TAD tubes are pretty sturdy - about the same time I bought the last pair of KT66 tubes from TAD -
I was mucking about in our rehearsal studio had my guitar plugged into my Route6 with the 2 by 10" cab standing on the floor.
Amp on top running sitting on top of the cab - with everything running hot so tp speak - I managed push the Route66 to tho flor. ( please dont ask how I managed to do that ) Almost wet myself thought for sure the KT66 was shot maybe even the EF86. Picked up the amp - put it on the cab - it just continued working.
And yes it's still exactly the same tubes in the Route66 to this day Admittedly we haven't been playing gigs as much as we used to - but still pretty impressive. Ans the flor in the rehearsal studio is concrete
Cheers. Dixiechicken!
