I didn't do as I promised months ago about reviewing my Heritage Custom Core H150 plain top. Dave had a couple threads about his that got me to look closer at them and tracked down a demo version for myself with a plain top. Thanks for piquing my interest premiumplus (Dave)! This video is a pretty close visual example of my plain top and a great representation of the tone I get. I play through either a Maz 8 or 38 (and had an 18 with this guitar), great match for those amps.
This is my first Heritage and the first Les Paul style I've ever really loved. I've not ever played a really nice Les Paul, but I can see the comparisons between Gibson CS, because the studios and standards that I've owned or played are not any were near the craftmanship of this Heritage. I love the pickups on this guitar. The only humbuckers I've even come close to liking were some Lollar Imperials, but my issue with the guitar those were in was the lack of variety between the bridge and neck. These Parson St humbuckers (in house Heritage Custom Shop model) are fantastic. All three positions give me different tones and they are really reactive with the volume and tone knobs.
My biggest knock on Gibson is my dislike for the slim taper neck. I love the beef on this neck.
I stayed away from Heritage for as long as I did because I don't really care for their tradition head stock, it looks too skinny. I think they were really wise to fatten the headstock up on the Custom Cores, I like it a lot. Does it make it sound better? No. But if you are going to invest in a model that is in this price range you can be picky about ascetics.
My only knock has to do with what is probably a nut or maybe a bridge issue. I won't mention where I bought it from because their customer service and lack of follow up on this issue was not acceptable. I finally took it the guy I trust for set ups and he fixed a lot of the issues. It stays in tune fine playing it in open E, but doesn't take a capo really well. My set up guy said he got it dialed in as good as it would be without major work, and suggested going back to the dealer or to Heritage if I remained unhappy with it. I might eventually do that, but I don't use a capo all that much so I don't think a lot about it normally.
This is such a great guitar. I'm blessed to have an instrument of this quality in my possession. By far the nicest electric I've ever owned.
