I sold a Z-Wreck Silver head and 2x12 cabinet to an individual that served me well at many shows over 2 years. He got the amp home and then told me that there were issues with the cabinet, that there was a lot of noise when he turned up the amp past 11 O'Clock. I use to mic this amp and run it sometimes at 3 O'Clock with no issues at all. No sound engineer ever told me it was noisy and no band mates complained.
First he told me one speaker was bad. That could be, though I believe that speaker had been mic'd before, but I gave him the money to buy a new speaker.
Now he is saying that the baffling on the top of the cover where the Z is, is not the "brown" one, so it's not authentic and that is what's causing the noise. I don't see how the covering of the cabinet could cause anything. I've attached a link to a video. It sounds like RF squelch noise to me. he has played the head through an Ox and had no issues. He did tell me he has bad RF trouble in his home, but now says none of his amps do this.
Could someone take a look at the video and tell me what it could be? This is with a new speaker, but even if the speaker was blown, wouldn't there just be distortion when played?
I played this at home before he came and picked it up and it had been at 3 O'Clock after my last show (which scared me because I forgot how loud it was) and there wasn't any noise; however, I ALWAYS plugged the head into a Forman conditioner / protector and I used high expensive cabinet cables to connect it to the head always making sure it was 16 ohm to 16 ohm. I don't know if he's using a guitar cable to connect the head to the cab, if he has the ohm connections correct etc... the video is all I have.
I'd appreciate any input from folks that know more than I do.
