I just acquired a 1x12 Z convertible cab that came with a G12-65. I know that this was Doc's choice for a speaker in the EZG combos so I will be running the EZG through it before moving things around.
Anyway, I now have a 2x12 cab along with this 1x12 and three 12" speakers. I've been running a Gold + Tone Tubby Red alnico in the 2x12 for a few years and that's a nice sounding combination with the three Z heads I own (EZG, Z-28, & Therapy). I know that there are many folks here who have a lot more experience with speakers than I do so I was wondering what the opinions are for which of the three speakers to run solo in the 1x12 leaving the other two for the 2x12? I've had the Gold for 10-15 years and have used it solo and paired with a number of other speakers through various amps with good results over the years. My favorite was probably the Gold + C-Rex combination. At this point, I'm inclined to put the Gold in the 1x12 and pair the TT with the G12-65 in the 2x12. Thanks in advance for any input.

I no longer use a 2x12 cab, but my last one had the Gold and Tone Tubby as yours does. A great combination, but I never have the need for that much stage volume anymore. I had the Tone Tubby in a 1x12 convertible Z cab and really liked it. Don't really like the Gold in a 1x12, but that's just my personal opinion. Me? I'd leave things just as you have them.

Thanks mrcapers, I wasn't expecting to hear from someone who had paired the Gold and TT, it is a nice combo. I plan to give the G12-65 a rotation through my guitars and amps before making a change anyway as I have never had that speaker before. I appreciate your very relevant input.

I would try a UK Vintage 30 in the 1x12. That's what I have with my Therapy and like it a LOT. I've seen a couple videos recently of people using the EZG with the V30 and I'm surprised it sounds so great. I think I'll try the V30 with my Z28, just to see about it.

I had a Bad Cat labeled V30 for a few years and it was a good speaker. It got sold along with all of my "extra" speakers a couple of years ago. I kept the really nice blonde Bad Cat 2x12 cab though. I'm going to try and avoid buying any more speakers unless I decide I really am not bonding with the G12-65.

Just a quick observation on the G12-65. The seller said that it had very little use and that appears to be the case because I can already hear a difference with just a week of basement volume playing. It isn't a totally neutral speaker but it does a good job of not coloring the amp\guitar much. I've only played the Therapy through it so far with two very different guitars and the tweedy nature of the Therapy and character of the different pickups come through very well. I'm beginning to understand why the Doc chose this speaker for the EZG combo.

I took an old Carvin 2x12 cabinet and put a WGS ET65 and a WGS G12c/s in it. I use it with my Maz38NRmkii. I like the sound, particularly with humbuckers.

My thoughts are do what you're doing. Pop the speakers in and kick the tires.
I have a Greenback, V30, some other Celestion, and a Red Alnico Tone Tubby. I've messed with them over the years and kept gravitating back towards the Greenback as 'my sound'.
I then picked up a UA Ox which I love. Between the Ox and some speaker IRs, I just keep coming back to the Greenback. I've read about the the pluses of other models, thought about them, & tried them for different flavors. And, well, the Greenback just sounds like me.
So, yea, just go ahead and try them out and have some fun. See what you like.
