So..I’m considering a new speaker cab for my Jetta head…. I’m thinking about a 2x10 Z cab.. I’ve only owned 1x12, 2x12, 4x12 and 4x10 cabs in the past.. Are 2x10 cabs full sounding? More depth or wider sounding than a single 12? ( I would think so ) Any input would be appreciated.. Hoss.

I had a 2x10 Maz18 combo w/ Doc’s 10’s, and that combination was magical. I then bought a 2x10 Z-converible cabinet to pair up for a 4x10 combination. I’ve also paired it with an Antidote and RT66 in my time owning those. I also have a 1x12 Z-convertible. I’ve compared both using my Therapy, and like the 2x10 more. I think Doc’s speakers are voiced extremely well. As I said his 2x10 in the Maz 18 was stellar. Similarly his 12” is equally magnificent in my Z-Plus. I still prefer the 2x10, I think it is a little quicker and two speakers seem to me to be more encompassing/engulfing(if that makes sense). I recently put a 10” Alnico gold in with one of doc’s 10’s. That’s a match made in heaven. I have a 1x10” gold in a Ghia combo (so I think I can compare) By adding Doc’s 10” I found the sound even more engaging. Choice of 1-12 or 2-10 and I’m going 2x10 anyway. This from a guy who played 12’s for 30 years.
I play fairly clean. Edge of breakup is getting dirty for me, and it’s usually achieved by the amp not a pedal. Delay, Tremolo and chorus are used far more than any dirt pedal. I share my style only as a reference, as someone who is heavy into distorted guitar might have a different viewpoint; I can’t speak to that.

So…. I bought a 2x10 Z cab!! It sounds really GOOD!! I’m still getting use to how it sounds.. I turn my preamp volume down a bit more with this cab to clean up the tone since I use pedals. But….when I turn the preamp volume up all the way and the tone up as well, It produces a great overdrive tone!! Diggin’ this combo of Jetta and 2x10 Z cab!! Hoss
