My Carmen Ghia sounds somewhat brittle and the volume seems to be floating. I ordered a new set from the Tube Store. Would you recommend installing them one by one to identify the problem or change them all at once.

One by one for sure. If you do them all at once you won't know which tubes are good as spares. As a matter of fact, if it were me, once I found the bad one I would keep the old good ones in. That's especially true with the preamp tubes. They last a really long time unless they have a major failure. Start subbing the two power tubes and then go to the preamp. A stop at the rectifier after the power tubes is fine, but for the most part, they either work or they don't.
