I ordered two Shuguang 5AR4 rectifiers awhile back. I checked them out recently and realized they where marked 5AR4 made in China. They didn't say Shuguange. Additionally, the bottles are about a 1/8" taller than my other correctly marked older Shuguange 5AR4' s. Visually, the internals, the base color & deminsions seem OK. I really wasn't concerned initially, but now that I am convalesing, and with too much time on my hands, well, you know! Did I mess up keeping these tubes?

Shuguang had a big fire a few years back. Not sure they ever came back up. The tubes are probably just fine. As long as they are 5AR4 you should be good to go.

What color are the bases? Are they the brownish-red of the Shuguang?

senor verde,
The color is identical to the shuguang silkscreen tube, reddish brown.

They may be Sino tubes. Do they look like this?

Sino tubes were typically made in the Shuguang factory. But memory says that Sino had more factories than just Shuguang.

Most likely Shuguang since they seemed to be the main supplier for Sino. Not sure how to really nail it down.

The tubes were represented as Shuguange when I ordered. I was kind of surprised they were not marked as Shuguange. More surprised they were a little taller, when I checked them out. I was hoping they were simply a different production run. Maybe they were, at a different plant. I have read somewhere that the Shuguange was a state owned operation and was waiting for the O.K. to resume production. I read here at Z-Talk production would resume this year. Basically when I noted the discrepancies in my tubes, I hoped I just had a new production run of the real thing!

I would love to see Shuguang up and running. They made/make some great tubes. I will have to check it out.
