So I was using the Z-Lux for our Praise Band at church and it's always been a little too much amp for what I need there. I'm the only one with an amp, everybody else goes direct to FOH. The Z-Lux has a terrific Master Volume control but I wanted something different so yesterday I took my Maz 8 MKII over and swapped it out, and it is just right for what I need up there. Really sweet clean tone and it takes drive pedals really well.
It's too bad that the Maz 8 didn't get enough attention to keep it in the current Z lineup. It sounds so good up there onstage! And for 8 watts it's amazingly competent. Plenty of grunt and girth for really great single-ended tone from one 6N14N output tube. The harmonic overtones on this amp are over the top and the MKII Master Volume makes it incredibly useable. I like the Pentode/Triode switch but I usually keep it in Pentode mode. The chime that this amp achieves is really cool. It's got an openness that is special. Thanks for a terrific amplifier, Doc!

This post is timely. I’ve been thinking of trying out one of my Maz JRs. It’s been a while.

the Maz 8's morphed into the Z plus. Both are wonderful amps

I've always used my Maz 8 at church, but I prefer the triode setting. It isn't a large building, and we have not gone the IEM or "nothing on the stage" route yet so my 8 and the bass amp are the obvious offenders if there's a volume issue (it could never be the fader dominator at the mixing board). Sometimes I will switch to pentode and there's that Vox chime the Maz series are known for, but pentode sits perfect in the mix. It is a great amp and I'm very grateful to have it.

I do love the triode mode too but not for the volume reduction but for the tone. It has such an amazing vintage tone to it, like 50's vintage. I think triode mode is like 2 1/2 watts? Sound awesome with a blue. My Maz 8 is waiting to move to a blue loaded studio cab but it does sound really great in my 2x12 combo loaded with English green backs.

My 8 combo is loaded with a Blue too, it's a great pair. The Triode mode never has really done it for me; I'm curious if you guys change the EQ when you switch modes.
