For 98% of my playing career, I've been a straight into the amp guitar player.
I'm now doing my three piece Rockin' Blues Band, and I do believe a few effects would help out me and the sound of the band.
I'm thinking simple and will go with a clean boost (SignaDrive), delay, maybe a chorus/vibe (TC Electronic Viscous Vibe Uni-Vibe), and a my wah pedal into my Ghia.
I was about to pull the trigger on a PedalTrain board to keep things clean and simple. But, after a quick internet search, I starting seeing posts that folks like to keep the wah pedal off the board.
So, would you recommend a small pedal board and keep the wah off the board? Or, do I get a board to fit the wah?
I thank you for your input.

I've had a wah on the board forever. I don't know why anyone would want a wah off the board other than some size savings (which wouldn't be all that much IMO) ... I'd rather have all the wiring and power locked down on the board rather than messing with it at the gig. They do take up space, and can be a bit of a tangle in connections depending on whether you're left or right footed, and how the wah's input & output jacks are located. But usually that's all "one and done" in wiring the pedalboard.

Welp. Question answered! Thank you! Common sense prevails.

Put the wah on the board! One less thing to do!

Look at the Pedaltrain Metro series. It's a flat (not angled) board. Dunlop makes an "in-between" size Cry Baby specifically for the depth of the Metro platform. Smaller than full size, but larger than the Mini C Baby.

If I'm going to use one, I leave it off to the side because I don't always want one.
Also, for a clean boost, I've been really pleased for quite a while now using a Keeley GC-2 compressor for that. It's based on the dbx 140 rack compressor and super simple. I generally set the ratio really low, and the the threshold to where it barely hits when playing hard, and then the output control for the volume boost. Highly recommended for that purpose. They are around $200, but it should show up on SW at 15% off at Memorial Day which isn't too far away. It's also just a really good sounding compressor (and simple).

On the board if there’s room, off the board if there are some gigs you do without it. I’m really liking my Xotic wah, but mostly use an auto wah effect to simplify my efforts.

I'll play devil's advocate here and say wah off the board, on the floor. I mainly say that because many boards (like my medium Pedaltrain) are inclined/tilted up towards the back, and I don't like the way that messes with the range of motion of the wah. So, I prefer mine off-board for that reason. Plus it's usually first in line, so it's easy to be "in the front" of the board, signal-wise.
Now, Paul (TRANE)'s red & white Holyboard shown above [which, by the way dude, looks freakin' awesome!] I believe is flat/level on its lower section. Therefore, it's probably not a big deal in regard to my sentiment above.
So that's my take on it--I simply prefer my wah to be level with the floor... therefore, usually on the floor is where I like it.

Just as fyi … there are quite a few pedal risers out there to help attach a wah to the board. On my old board I made a simple one out of wood that mounted the wah level (ie, the riser was cut at an angle to offset the pedalboard angle). It’s about 1/2-3/4” thick so the wah is level and slightly elevated.

I'm now starting to think that I'll just go with a small pedalboard to fit four or so pedals and leave the Wah on the floor next to it. My biggest problem is that I'm an analyzer and optimizer personality-wise. So, I've got to be careful not to get stuck with 'no decision' while waiting to figure out the optimal decision. Again, I thank everyone for their input and educating me on something that I just didn't have much feel for.

I got my wah on my Board. I have my vibe pedal after it but the vibe is the first pedal in the signal chain I just run the cables underneath my board. I had it off the board for a while but prefer it on the board now. Either way it’s up to you whatever works best for you.

I use a Crybaby mini wah on my board. Not much bigger than a stomp box. I don't use it a lot but it works fine for when I need it.

I keep my wah off the board. I don't like the slightly raised angle that the board puts the wah on. I usually use a Crybaby Mini so it's pretty small to carry separately.
