Hello everyone,
My first post in this forum, I am a big Dr. Z fan. I am fortunate enough to own a few Dr. Z amps and after hearing the Doctor himself recommend this forum in YouTube I had to join
Looking for some information about the time frame when the 16 Ohm tap was added to the CG. What year was the 16Ohm tap added and did anything else change in the amp when this happened?
Thank you in advance, cheers.

Welcome to the forum! I have no idea when it was added, but I also don't think it really matters at the end of the day. If the early ones had an 8 ohm transformer, it was designed to sound good into an 8 ohm load with that transformer. All I know is that if the transformer changed to a 16ohm transformer with taps at 8 an 4, that wouldn't be just a willy nilly decision by doc, he would have put a lot of heart and soul into that decision and would have done a lot of critical listening. I know that doesn't answer your question, but the point is I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Maybe someone else can chime in. I really just wanted to say welcome to the forum.

The only major changes was the conjunctive filter on the output of the amp, and the addition of the 16 ohm tap. The spec of the output transformer is the same. Just more windings to connect a 16 ohm output. Couldn't come up with a definitive date to the 16 ohm addition.
