Hello everyone,
My first post in this forum, I am a big Dr. Z fan. I am fortunate enough to own a few Dr. Z amps and after hearing the Doctor himself recommend this forum in YouTube I had to join
Looking for some information about the time frame when the 16 Ohm tap was added to the CG. What year was the 16Ohm tap added and did anything else change in the amp when this happened?
Thank you in advance, cheers.

Welcome to the forum! I have no idea when it was added, but I also don't think it really matters at the end of the day. If the early ones had an 8 ohm transformer, it was designed to sound good into an 8 ohm load with that transformer. All I know is that if the transformer changed to a 16ohm transformer with taps at 8 an 4, that wouldn't be just a willy nilly decision by doc, he would have put a lot of heart and soul into that decision and would have done a lot of critical listening. I know that doesn't answer your question, but the point is I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Maybe someone else can chime in. I really just wanted to say welcome to the forum.

The only major changes was the conjunctive filter on the output of the amp, and the addition of the 16 ohm tap. The spec of the output transformer is the same. Just more windings to connect a 16 ohm output. Couldn't come up with a definitive date to the 16 ohm addition.

FWIW I recently sent my CG in to get the Master Volume mod and asked Don if the 16 ohm output could be easily added. To my surprise yes! It was already almost all there except the jack and the connection so he added it for me along with the MV. I understand not all CG are ready for the 16 ohm jack addition, only some of them. I guess if you send in yours for service or modification is worth checking and adding the 16 ohm output for added versatility.

I got curious and pulled my 2013 Carmen Ghia’s chassis. The OT indeed has a third tap…which has to be a 16 ohm tap. There are three secondary leads, but the yellow lead is cut and has shrink wrap on the end….under the chassis. Imho, that tap needs to be utilized…especially with a head as mine is. I took a picture, but it seems I cannot post directly from my computer??.

Hey, Helmi! If that welcome is for me, then thanks…but I have been here a little while. That Shorty 2X10 is the one I got from you. It has Weber 10F150Ts with light dope running in it these days. That cab brought my 2013 Carmen Ghia to me….so I am glad I bought the cab just for grins, right?

Helmi, I see now that you were welcoming the OP. He started this thread in March, 2023. I joined in June, 2023. Time flies.

Fwiw, there is a third hole for a speaker Jack to serve that existing 16 ohm winding. That soon will be done to my Ghia head.

Hi. New here. I have a ghia head with only and 4 and 8 ohm jacks. What does the conjunctive filter do and what was the change? I have no idea what that is
