I really love the simplicity of the just three knobs setup, ok four with the MKII. Are their other Z’s with this same feature, bass/treble both acting like gain past noon?
Thanks. I wanted to explore before buying or ordering a Z28…
p.s. I’ve owned two Maz Jr’s, but it’s been years ago now.

The Route 66 has the same front end but no master volume. I loved it but just too loud for my needs. When I read about the Z28 mk2 I jumped on the combo. No regrets here. I’ve owned a lots of “do all” amps but I’m happier with this tone stack. Easy to dial in and lots of variation on theme.

To the best of my knowledge it is only the amps with the EF-86 preamp tubes that have gain past noon. RT66,KT45,Z-28,M-12 all did that. Not sure abut the Stang Ray? My Z-Wreck Jr and Z-Plus and Maz 8 do not do that.

Also possibly the KT-45 side of the 6545. I'll check next time I'm in the location with that amp.

In my experience with the Z28 (and route 66) ....saying "gain past noon" can be a little misleading. (but I understand why the phrase is used) It depends on how hot the signal/pickups are.

M12 same configuration. Love how it interacts with my m12. I have mine both bass and treble at 1oclock with single coil middle pickup.

Also. M12 is a super loud amp. I have played full band through a zcab 4x10 no problem.

Not sure abut the Stang Ray? It’s the tone stack that does this “add gain” past noon thing. Not the EF-86, although all those amps in the family utilize the ef-86. The stangray does have an ef-86 but the tone control is entirely different. More like the Ghia tone control.
