My Z28 MKII head should be here tomorrow! I'm very excited for this amp. Those with the head which speakers are you using. I have a few that I can swap into my 1x12 cab. Let me know what I should start with: Warehouse ET65 Celestion Alnico Gold Bad Cat Celestion 12" Avatar Hellatone 30 and I have a Greenback but probably wont risk that in the Z28. The 1x12 is a V Boutique Vumble 1x12: www.vboutiqueusa.com/shop/vumble-2/

Congrats! I think it's a really special amp.
Fwiw, when I had one for a bit, I used it with a greenback 1x12 and thought it sounded fantastic. I wonder how many people actually tear up a greenback when it's "technically" over powered. Like I would think you'd really have to have the cranked to high heaven to do that, but what do I know. I also use my maz38 with a greenback sometimes and think that's pretty special too.
I'm a pretty big fan of the gold in a 1x12 too. They are so much louder than a greenback though, and there's some advantage to the green back too in that way. It's the same way with my greenback 4x12 vs say the v30/h30 4x12 in that I really appreciate the considerable less volume the greenback cab puts out.

ET65, love that speaker. Great for pedals, just like the Z28.

I would probably start with the Gold, but it's going to be louder.
I had a greenback with my 28...swapped out for a G12H30.....went back to the greenback. If you're worried about power, perhaps you could pick up a creamback.

I'm really loving an Alnico Creamback in my Proto combo, and the regular Creamback sounds great in the production amp too.

Its here! So far I love it. There is something about the way it feels under my fingers. I have missed a Tube Rec I think. Also it is soooo present but not harsh. Just a great amp. It loves my Hudson AP Broadcast, Walrus 385 and Critter Electronics CFR (Klone). In typical Dr. Z EF86 fashion it takes drives incredibly well. I am starting with the Warehouse Et65. It is a tad bright with my Novo Serus T (tele bridge pickup) but I am going to live with it for a bit before I change speakers. The Scumback M75-LDC has been tempting me as well.

A bit brighter, but that's what tone controls are for right? I have a Scumback J75 PVC on order so I'll see how that shakes out.

Well damn. This amp is great so far. I feel like the M12 and Rt 66 I used to have had a Baby and It only got my favorite traits from both. I also pulled the trigger on a Scumback M75-LD. I have wanted one for years and just want to see if it can tame my Branknuckle Flat 50 bridge pickup in the right way. I can't get over how this thing takes pedals. No matter what I throw in front it never caves in and there is a clarity that shouldn't be possible. All ODs sound great. For modulation and time effects, I have a Supro Trem, Boss DC-2w, Keeley Halo, and a Meris Mercury7. All of them sound better through this amp than my Bad Cat Cub 40R. It also makes my Jam Pedals Wahcko sound better. I'm super happy. Oh yeah, the Master works perfectly. Great F'n Amp Dr. Z. Lots of ground covered with the Z28 and this guitar.

Checking back in.... man I love this amp. Also the range of gain and tonal changes you can make with the EQ is staggering. All usable. I was getting some tones on my Tele bridge pickup that were a tad too bright. I played around with the lowering the Treble but didn't love that. Then I cranked the Bass to 3 o'clock. Man did that extra gain in the Bass and low mids help.
TL/DR: Don't be afraid to experiment with the EQ. It does some seriously cool things.
