Having realized that my recently purchased Z28 mkii is going to be with me for life, I made a few purchases - a Studio Slips cover, and sets of back up tubes. After ordering a set of Winged C ef86’s, I opened my box of tubes and realized that I have a nice stock of ef86 tubes already. I had forgotten that I bought a few Amperex, two Tungsram, and a few Dario Miniwatts for my original Z28!
I played that amp regularly for 10 years and never need to even replace a power tube, let alone a preamp tube. I suspect that in ten years I will still have a nice supply of ef86 that I have once again forgotten about.

Now that I have a Z-28, I'll need a back up EF86 for the one that will never go bad. Which ones did Doc use?

Similarly, had two Z28’s over the years, as well as an M12 and a Route 66. Have a nice stash of the EF86’s. And, I also think the mkii is here to stay.

I do the same thing. I get backup parts for an amp, put them aside, and forget all about them. Then, having forgotten all about it, I order more backups. My tube stash is overflowing and that's a good thing, but I really need to organize it all!

You can never have too many tubes. Especially with the prices and availability issues recently.

I have a Route 66, a Z-28 and a Z-28 MK II, before that I had a Morgan AC20 Deluxe(sold many years ago.) When I had the AC 20 I bough a bunch of EF-86 tubes that were recommended on the Tube Store. Realized that the were not the Winged C and bought a bunch of Winged C EF 86 Tubes. I have plenty of stock!!
